Champions

This may seem like rose tinted specs, but I really do believe we are going to go up as Champions.

Believing in something is a massive part of making it happen...

I know it is going to be hard and there are always a million logical reasons against it... But anyone who has walked up Snowdon will know it looks mighty big from down below but much smaller from up top.

I think the Champions spot is going to turn out like a battle from Star Wars.

The Dark side v the Jedis.

Salford v Wrexham

And we hold the Lightsabre.

We own our club, we are not cash rich and we have a far greater history, pedigree and knowledge of how to play football the Wrexham Way. What is the Salford way exactly ? We had forgotten how to play the Wrexham Way over the years, but we are finding it again through Sam Ricketts.

The last time we did the Champions thing we had an ace Welsh manager who had played for Wales too.

It will take great courage and great mental strength, but Sam is the man to get us back up. It's the first time I have felt that in over 10 years. His ego is not bigger than his ability. His ability is bigger than his ego. A bit like Yoda.

The one thing I do think is we are not going to do it just as one team. #WeAreOneTeam

I think we are going to need a bit of 'Wrexham' in the mix too, for us to go up as Champions.

So anyone who is on social media. When you do the hashtag #WeAreOneTeam please can you also add #WeAreWrexham.

A fab little boy I know recently rubbed the happy Buddah's belly at the European Buddhist headquarters in France. There was a Wrexham AFC sticker on the car in the car park.

Let's make this happen ... Red Passion.

We protected the Racecourse, so getting us back into the Football League as Champions is easy compared to that.

2018/19 Champions. :trophy:

One up automatic makes it very very difficult to get out of this league; that is the huge problem as we know all too well (esp the Fleetwood season as Wxm Boy says).

I'd take top 3 still at the moment (which would be a huge improvement by Sam on the last 5-6 years); any lower than 3rd and with the number of games in rapid succession I think it's very hard to get out of the play offs.

Agree. We don't look like champions yet. We haven't got that ruthless streak.

We do however look a much improved side with much more strength in depth now.

I think to only include Salford as other title contenders is a bit simplistic. I think any one of half a dozen teams could win the title. eg Orient, Chesterfield, Barnet, Fylde etc etc. Think its going to be really tight again.

Should reach the playoffs this time but we do need to beat some of the other contenders at home.

Re: Champions

I like your optimism, but IMO I think we will struggle to go up as Champions (this year at least). I just don't see that we are that finished as of yet. However, give it ten more games and if all is going well, my thoughts will likely change.

I am pretty confident we have what it takes to finish top 7. Top 3 possibly.

But one thing is certain, we are looking our strongest for many seasons.

Just to say

Am not underestimating the other teams in any way.

There are some very good sides in the mix.

But there can only be one Champions per year.

Aiming for the play offs is like aiming for the water jump in a steeplechase race.

He who dares wins.

You Look at the other top teams they have a goalscorer ie Rowe. Rooney Bonne etc MFT I'm not sure about, Maybe Quigley could have done it for us but we could do with someone that has scored goals fairly consistently.

From what I've seen I doubt MFT will, and this needs to be sorted or it's anther season down here.

Are the other sides as defensively as tight as us? Salford despite all the cash seem to be letting quite a few in. Could be the difference as we seem to have more in midfield and attack than last year.

Way to early to say if we will be in the mix come the end. Delighted with where we are now after what was on paper was a tough start.

boomer 5th September 2018 13.16:58

Re: Champions

I agree with those who see Orient as a threat. Obviously Salford, Barnet are now four wins on the trot I think and Harrogate are undefeated and showing resilience like last night at Hartlepool themselves an improved side. Including us there seems to be better quality teams this season.

pagl 5th September 2018 13.40:51

Re: Champions

Rose tinted!! Not quite sure where you see us as champions elect - maybe you have seen something more than most others.

Defensively sound, will miss Manny but I think Lawlor will improve over the next few games and not likely to face such pace again.

Midfield wise - just not enough creativity and certainly not enough goals from the options available.

Forwards - MTF has to bring more to the party. Scored 1 in the last 4 games and last night he seemed to be more interested in playing a bit of a fool than causing them problems. Seems that he could have an attitude problem?
Drew is very hit and miss.

There is a lot of improvement to be made, we need to balance out the squad better and I think still need 2 key signings to consider the title. IMO.

Possibly you're right, it is. His goal return to date is fantastic and he's only two behind Rowe and Rooney. Due to family commitments and a holiday I haven't seen as many games as I'd usually see, but from all of the home games, apart from Bromley he hasn't impressed me at all.

Harrogate, Letyon O's, and Salford climbing up
lots of shuffling - dipping and slipping to come yet

but one thing I am confident on is that we will continue to improve under this manager and with our fantastic fans support.

why would quigley come over here , Tuesday night , to watch wxm? - if we can loan a loanee then now is time to get another big man up front and with SR and the board's support I now find myself expecting an announcement of some sort within a week

Yes but you're missing my point they are all bunching up behind us, we are inconsistent at the moment particularly at home, last season we drew to many home games simply put we are not putting a run of wins together or scoring enough still, look at newly promoted Harrogate as one example they are scoring for fun.

We need to be more clinical when on top.

The season is a long haul and everyone will have blips and dips.
We have enough for a play off challenge but will have to improve in Jan.

I think we have an imbalance in the squad and Sam is still shuffling the pack which is going to give some inconsistency as it depends on the specific 11 working together in that specific game.

Entertainment wise so much better than last season.

I think Big Mike has the force but probably needs his Obi Wan to bring him through a bit. I see us as possible play off material at the moment and we have a few big games coming up to consolidate us in the top few if possible.

I have a dream that one day on the green hills of Wrexham the sons of former fans and the sons of former players will be able to sit down together at the table of WAFC brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the city of Chester, a city suffering with the weight of poor and average players, with a dodgy pitch, will one day be transformed and be able to give us a decent match. That we will win 6-3.

I have a dream that our great modern team will one day play with no fear, with the swagger and shimmering red of our legendary 1978 side and they will not be judged by the number of goals they score, but by the size and audacity of their pitch-side celebration they make in front of our fans.
