Re: Wedgbury SIGNS
Just got official email! Pleased with this, this is the most encouraging start to a close season I can remember in a long time, getting some proper players "in the building"! Is it wrong to be a tiny bit excited now for next season?!

Re: Wedgbury SIGNS
Next on the list for manager Dean Keates is midfielder Sam Wedgbury, who has joined the Reds after helping Forest Green to promotion at the third time of asking via the play-offs, during his three years in Gloucestershire.
The boss was very happy with his latest signing: "I have been after him for a few weeks now and following numerous phone calls, I'm pleased to have landed him. "What most impressed me about Sam was that he said he wanted his next move would be to a big football club. "To hear those words, I knew we had a massive chance and I'm grateful he's bought into what we want to do next season. "We watched him in one of the late league games last season and he was very impressive when Forest Green beat Tranmere [at Prenton Park], covering every blade of grass. "He's a fit lad, goes box to box, sits in there to break things up and he's a good size." The 28-year-old grew up in the Black Country and began his career with non-league Worcester City, before securing a move to Sheffield United in 2006, after becoming their youngest ever scorer at just 16 years of age. After spending time on loan at first Mansfield Town and then Hungarian giants Ferencvaros, he returned to the UK with 17 appearances under his belt, he was eventually be released in 2010. Signing for League Two Macclesfield Town, he had a short loan spell at Altrincham, before coming back to fight for his place in the Silkmen’s first team. Sam became a regular in 2011/12, but it was a struggle as it coincided with their relegation from the Football League. The following season saw him voted both Players and Supporters' Player of the Year in 2013, performances that got him noticed further afield and a move to Stevenage followed that summer. Also an England C international, having played once for his country in February 2013, against Turkey at Dartford. Wedgbury will widely be remembered by the Silkmen faithful for his goal against Lincoln City in March 2011, a last-minute volley that played a crucial part in securing Macc’s league status that season. He had made a total of 116 appearances for Macc, scoring two goals, in his three-year stay at the Moss Rose. His time in League One with Stevenage last one year and 13 appearances, although he made his debut as a right-back, probably not his most natural position. It was then onto a two-year contract with Forest Green Rovers in the summer of 2014 and a successful spell in helping the Green Devils into the Conference play-offs in both years. Towards the end of his second season at the New Lawn, he tore cruciate ligaments in his knee, an injury that was to keep him out for 10 months. Although FGR showed commendable loyalty to the player by offering him a contract for 2016/17, knowing that he would miss most of it due to that injury. Returning to action in early February 2017, Sam played in 12 games towards the end of the campaign, including the last 10 minutes of their Play-Off Final victory over Tranmere Rovers at Wembley. There was though disappointment a few days later, when he was released by Forest Green, but with 250 first team appearances to his credit, Sam fits right in with the kind of profile that the boss has been recruiting this summer. Now back to full fitness, he will be looking to play a big part in our 2017/18 season. |

Re: Wedgbury SIGNS
That's a massive coup, he's a quality player at this level. Teams shaping up massively right now, we just need a goal scorer! 13/1 to win the league on sky bet? I can guaranteed that price will be in its 7/8-1 come start of season. Definitely sticking £20 on it
