Accessible Parking at Glyndwr University - RedPassion.co.uk

Hi All,

The situation now with these hugely increased attendances is of course impacting upon the demand for accessible parking for blue badge holders in Glyndwr on a match day.

This meant that yesterday our whole allocation of bays were filled an hour before kick off and we were faced with the heart break of telling some of our fans that they could not get parked there.

As it stands, we can offer no guarantees to blue badge holders that they will get parked up as close to the stadium as they have in previous seasons, we can only suggest that you get there as early as you can.

Our volunteers visit the car park on the eve of a game and hours before kick off to ensure, as much as we can, that the area is coned and taped off to protect the spaces and we have attendants on the ground as much as two and a half hours before kick off to try and accommodate those who need it.

We are in discussion with the club and will be in discussion with others to see if we can secure more spaces for those who need it most, but if anyone out there has any alternative ideas we are open to suggestions!

I guess yesterday was always going to be tricky with the Open day.

Could offer more spaces for those that need them and possibly for others due to the increase in attendances maybe offer park and ride option? I see a lot of clubs offer this.

When I went for my 2nd vaccine few weeks back they were parked on the AstroTurf pitch nearest one to Catrin finch centre. Unsure that’s where they park now as haven’t been that end since.

Just to update you all.

We've been reaching out to local politicians and Government officials in the quest for further spaces other than at Glyndwr, but this has so far proven fruitless.

Our man Chris has been liaising with the Glyndwr Estates Manager, who has been very helpful in tracking down some of the vehicles blocking the spaces we do have and getting those vehicles to move ahead of a match day.
Chris also located the owner of a broken down vehicle in our area, that person has been very kind and amazingly helpful in getting that space freed up to us going forwards.

We do still desperately need more space though, so if anyone has any ideas do let us know.

Finally, we do hear a lot of comments while we are on duty and also on social media about the "bad" parking in our allocated area.
We'd ask people to bare in mind that these bays are designed for everyday use as standard bays and are not at all suitable for Blue Badge holders. Therefore we always advise the users on the day to take no notice of the lines and to take just the room they need to be able to get in and out of their cars. (The spaces around a marked up accessible parking bay are very considerably wider). Hence what may look like bad parking to a casual observer, is simply a disabled person giving themselves proper room.

A standard bay's width is 2.4 metres.

An accessible bay should be 3.6 metres.

To update you all on this. The WSA have very kindly granted us permission to utilise more spaces for blue badge holders and we are very grateful to them for so readily agreeing to our request.

So tonight there will be more accessible parking in Glynwdr, but we still advise those seeking those spaces to come as early as they can.
