He's 30, scored 16goals in lg 1 last year...the lad scored 39 goals in 70 od games for swindon....he's a proper striker.

Default Re: Who will the new striker be?

Afternoon, Motherwell fan here. I stumbled across this thread and thought I'd chip in on Bowman. For avoidance of doubt I'm not claiming to be #ITK or anything. I've not idea what his situation is, only how it looks from a fan's point of view.

As far as I can see there's a fair chance we may be looking to move Bowman on. We're in the middle of a massive re-build at the moment (9 first team players in already with 9 having left) and the manager is on record as saying he'd like another striker in along with another defender. In order for that to happen we'll need to move a couple out.

As it stands there's a new deal on the table for Moult, whether he signs is a different story, but he's clearly still wanted at Fir Park so unless someone comes in with a very decent offer that's worth Motherwell (and Wrexham's) time it's unlikely he'll be moving. Alex Fisher has only just signed so he's not going anywhere and Jacob Blyth would have been catapulted into the sun this summer had he not picked an injury that's ruled him out until December. Essentially that means that if we're looking to bring another striker in (and apparently we are) Bowman's the most likely to be moved on. Whoever mentioned earlier in the thread that we've got strikers who are similar to each other has pretty much hit the nail on the head.

It hasn't really happened for him up here, he was brought in and had a decent enough first few games but then just found himself on the bench behind Moult and Scott McDonald and despite having a decent start to pre-season he's unlikely to be getting a start ahead of Moult nor is he likely to be the *answer* should Moult leave. You can't fault his effort and in fairness to him he was played out of position for a number of his appearances but it's difficult not to feel that given our personnel at the moment if a club wanted to take him off our hands then we'd be open to a conversation.

We've already moved Craig Clay on to Leyton Orient and I could see a move back to a league where he's scored goals would suit Bowman. I suppose it all depends on whether he's up for a move and what sort of terms he's after.

He started on the bench today and was unlucky with an effort that clipped the post which is kind of par for the course for him up here. I don't think him being involved really alters the fact that our manager's on record as looking for another striker to bring in though.

Anyway, that's my 2c. All the best for the season.

Big LOL indeed. If we have 120k plus two years wages (£1k per week?) then that would mean an investment of over 220k. Surely at that point you would offer an out of contract league 1 hotshot £110k per year.
