League tables

Does anyone out there remember in 60s 70s league tables were not shown for the first couple of months in the papers or on TVs I think it was a much better idea and took pressure off teams and managers. It's ridiculous to have a league table thrust in front of you after 45 mins of the seasons start. I seem to recall the tables started to be produced after 8 or 10 games.
I do remember having a magazine that gave you all divisions and you did your own tables with little pieces for each team funny I always had us top

I remember there was a footy magazine called Shoot.

They used to produce the four divisions with little slits to put the card with each team written on them , then you could move the teams up and down .

Always spent Sunday morning checking the leagues and moving teams up or down .

Computers have obviously lessened the work load on calculating positions, i'm guessing that back in the day it was seen as a "chore" to be bothering for the first few games.

Yes i remember that and moving the pieces in the teams colours, sad wasn't it ☺ no non league table then though just leagues 1,2,3,4

Also from that sort of period in time do you all remember the team photographs that were produced by Esso petrol when petrol was purchased they gave you a team photo of your choice great quality size about 18 inches by 12 inches again only league clubs. It was great for me as my dad was a mechanic at an Esso garage. Wish I had kept them be worth something now

And the Scottish leagues. Even then the media was pandering to Scottish nationalism.

Yes i remember having pics of Denis Law. George Best, Bobby Charlton 😋 Liverpool ones were used to light the fire, now Wrexham ones then though that I can recall

Yes the Wrexham ones were excellent had numerous seasons adorned above my bedroom fireplace
