He's what this club needed

I certainly don't have any insider knowledge of what goes on at GTFC but my understanding is that we were delaying in offering him a new contract (which I am told would only have been a one year one anyway) whilst Russell Slade tried to find any better. However during this time Wrexham offered Shaun a 2-year deal and he jumped at the chance of that security (albeit a level below us).

We certainly haven't brought in anyone better in my opinon and whether we would have eventually offered him the one year deal I don't know. Even if we did, he may still have chosen the security of a 2-year deal and a regular place guaranteed anyway.

Shaun has shown himself to be a quality player & captain and made a superb pairing with Manny is one of the success stories of this years team. I hope Keates is able to bring in the forwards to complement the defence for a big push for promotion. Pearson is one of the best signings we have made in a long time.

When we initially signed Shaun in 2011 it was with another Boston player, a central midfielder called Anthony Church and in the first few months it looked like Church would be the better signing for us. Shaun made his debut in our infamous 5-0 defeat at Braintree and struggled in his first few months here, so much that I understand that at one point he thought of packing it all in as being a professional footballer wasn't for him.

However as the season went on he grew into the game whereas Church began to go backwards and was released at the end of the season, where he is now, I don't know.

As you know Shaun went on to become a massive crowd favourite in his 6 years here and our loss is certainly your gain.

Hopefully Shaun can do what Nathan Arnold did with Lincoln last season.
