He is well aware of what the current staff are capable of and will certainly put his own stamp on things. Whilst they will have an input, he'll have the final say. He sees the opportunity to progress his career and appears to have been diligent in asking for advice and opinions from his peers. He isn't taking this job blindfolded and knows what is expected. I felt that, reading between the lines, we are going to be looking at a style of play nearer to the Saunders team rather than any of our other managers. He comes across with the same enthusiasm as Saunders but appears less arrogant and more grounded. Hard to judge before a ball is kicked but the appointment seems a good one. |

Q.R I wasn't there personally & I was intending to go this time but I spent most of the day & night Sat on the throne after a dodgy BBQ colonic irrigation of the worst kind ( Although I've still some left to talk it 😈 I like a lot of what I've read he has said especially about the midfield and forwards, that he intends to play the proper way football and that he seems to have better contacts than his predecessor, I also hope he is better at getting quality players signed not chase lost causes for months, the fact he is talking quality from the leagues above rather than pub footballers who have sent their whole career moving from club to club in the conference/National leagues as long as he isn't talking to many young kids who will struggle physically. Yes what I've read mostly sounds positive, but their lies the doubt as every new manager has put a positive spin on the job and all have talked the talk, putting it into practice seems to be the problem, going into our 11th season in hell time unfortunately is not on his side, but if he plays attacking attractive football which entertains the crowd like Mills did for his first 4 months but keeps it up all season then the fans will give him time. I personally am glad to see the back of Keates I don't think he was up to the job. Posted via mobile theme |

Re: LIVE THREAD - Meet The Manager Evening at the Cent
I don't think I made my point very well. In my opinion last season's team wasn't that far off making the play-offs and with a better January transfer window and the addition of a quality striker and quality midfielder I think we would have.
Going forward into next season I agree that we need more than that, but I still think the defensive spine of the team is solid. |

Not just a risk but a repeated mistake from the previous three years, whether that squad is well fixed (as Keates' was) or fluid (as Mills' was). In administration we were restricted to 20 as a punishment/management. To choose to go with 19 is crackers - yet again.

Less players should, if the right acquisitions are made, result in better quality players for the first team squad. We are not in a position to run a reserve side so it's daft to sideline additional players. A squad of 19 still allows the manager scope to dip into the loan market and should the team perform as Sam wants, and the fans expect, then additional funds will be made available. |

We've already got 8 under contract. Ricketts and we are going to need a lot fortune in the transfer market; we can't afford many turkeys. Mix in the first-time managed factor and it's going to be interesting.
