I don't want him to go but if there is fire to this smoke then it won't be announced until after the FA cup game at least. The club will insist on that as this game could be worth so much to us, there shouldn't be any last minute destabilisation.

It’s a national league club to a league 1 club (who were 1 game away from the Championship).

People genuinely believe the club can be criticised if he goes? It’s a huge career jump. The contracts are ratified by Governing bodies and a lot of managers won’t come without certain caveats to say they can leave, just as the club will have some to say they can sack them.

It is about seizing the moment. In the perilous world of football managment, there are no guarantees. If he was offered the Shrews job, he would be foolish to turn it down ( as much as that is disappointing for us) .

If he rejected it, and we failed again at promotion, and next season we are say a mid table team, his stock would have diminished considerably.

He is riding the crest of a wave at the moment, and albeit has come around very quickly, he would have to take it.

Keep fueling the disruptive “he will go” theme. Probably partly why his odds are so short.

The fact is any Manager with a background in the game (don’t know of any that don’t) will know what they want in a Contract, as will all Clubs. More importantly they will know what is reasonable to put in it.
It beggars belief that people think that contracts are a one way committment that allows us to keep a good Manager (and potentially prevent him from improving his lot), whilst being able to ditch him if he doesn’t achieve.

I don’t get why people don’t get that.

There are ways of keeping people here. Offer Sam a financial incentive and/or a pay rise. Shouldn't be hard to do with the cash floating around the club of late. Speculate to accumulate and all that.

There was talk of AFC Wimbledon, but wasn’t offered it.

The difference being that Justin Edinburugh has clearly stated he is happy where he is and has no intention of going anywhere (Wimbledon interest).

I am still waiting to see Ricketts make a similar clear statement and 'totally' dismiss the Shrewsbury link - and not hear other statements like 'there has been no approach from Shrewsbury (just yet).

The whole thing stinks again just like last season - any coincidence that since the speculation started we haven't won in three and can't score - same as last season's slump when Keates departed - just wondering if the speculation destabilizes the players.

Simplistic approach which will almost certainly not work. The offer (if it has even been made) is a significant improvement in status and probably a three year contract that we could never get close to matching in terms of remuneration.
