Midfield better on paper, admittedly Barton is a risk but Redmond is almost surely an improvement on anybody we had in an attacking role.

Strikers on paper are far better, they won't all come off but it can't be worse then last seasons.
Yeah I know Walker was but that's not the point. Keep signing risks/punts/gambles like Barton and it will bite you on the arse eventually. Hopefully I'm wrong. I'm still not convinced on midfield or up front, where again a lot of punts instead proven players, bar maybe JJ.

i think keep Summerfield fit this season and a rotation of Young/Wright/Redmond/Barton/Carra around him will probably keep a steady ship in midfield, providing we don't play hoof ball again

Grant/Hooper/Harris sounds like most likely front 3 at the mo. i am happy going in to the season with that, and having Macintosh/Fondop/Oswell as back up also doesnt phase me. but we all know Rutherford will be ahead of all of them and we all know the reason why....

I don't think JJ or Redmond are punts to be fair.

A quick Google search by anyone shows that Barton can be a quality player but clearly has/had some issues, if we can find it then Hughes must know more detail, and have seen enough to think he can trust him (Two year deal reinforces this)....at this point, we can only trust him on this.

Macintosh and Harris are punts, no question....but some signings are bound to be.

Redmond is absolutely a punt. He's started less than 20 games in his professional career so far. So hugely unknown in terms of how injury prone and he's very very inexperienced. Definition of a punt.

Barton is a huge gamble for me but like you say BH must trust him to keep his mouth shut hence the two year deal.

I had hoped we'd push the boat out with signings this season but I'm yet to see any signings that make me think how the hell did we get him.

i agree, apart from possibly Hooper, none of our transfers are in the Keates/Creighton/Pearson mould, whereas some of the other teams around us are making them

Agreed. On paper, I don't feel we've strengthened at all.

Hopefully a change in style with the few new faces will bring more out of the existing squad, the football last season was horrendous.

Looks like the board are still hoping for a Macclesfield season....

Good job we haven't got substantial windfall payments and didn't operate considerably higher than break even attendance last year isn't....

I agree with this. They are all a bit of a punt, we haven't really pulled off a masterstroke. You could argue that the closest we have come to doing that is Lainton who could have gone leagues above most likely.

That being said I am happy with our recruitment, nothing is ever sure fire I suppose and what we have brought in certainly looks like it will improve us on paper.

Exactly. We sign a Keates type midfielder and a top quality wide midfielder and I'd be more hopeful.
Compare our signings (without the Wrexham tinted specs on) to that of others we're competing against and we looking at a play off place at best.

What we need is for BH to bridge that gap with tactics, man management and finding a few gem players from no where. However that's a complete unknown too as our manager is the biggest punt of the lot.

Love how the pessimism has crept back! The only side I feel has done consistently better business than us this summer in our league is Fylde and we know all about their budget.

McCallum was a great signing for Solihill true but they've lost some good players and not really strengthened apart from him.

Bromley and Boreham wood have made some astute signings given their club sized but none that I would say would make our fans think wow if we signed them.

I havent been overly impressed with anyone Chesterfield or Hartlepool have signed.
