Days when we were a proper club, 50,000 plus that day. RIP Mick

Sad news RIP Mick. Seem to remember him scoring our only goal in the 1-0 victory over West Ham, our first game in the old 2nd division.

May God bless his soul.
Remember watching that game from the middle of the kop - pretty sure that was the game that Joey Jones and Charlton forward Derek Hales had a punch up and both got red carded.

By pure chance as so often happens we played them in the league the following Saturday - turned up expecting another easy win and a big score line - but football isn't like that - game ended 1 - 1.

Feels like a month ago - the years fly by - remember Mick Vinter most as we had that fantastic kit at the time - vivid red shirts with white stripes down the shoulders and sleeves.

Might have crossed lines or season but 'first' match in the old second division was a barmy hot August day at home to Alan Mullery's Brighton & Hove which ended 0 - 0.

Our next home games that season were against Leicester City & Newcastle United - all ended 0 - 0.

We won at Fulham and Orient to briefly go top as well.

Top of the Championship...…..some heady days right there.

Makes our current plight even more sad because this club and its support could sustain Championship football but we've got to want it.....as in really want it.

Anyway, this is the Mick Vinter thread. He'd have been sad to see where we are now but thanks for all the memories Mick. You were one of the best

RIP Mick, happy childhood memories.

One of my favourites is when he took and scored the last minute penalty against Charlton after Dixie had been sent off for kicking the ball away off the spot, Very unusual scenario, but Mick cooly slotted it home.

Saddened to read this...Fantastic time to watch Wrexham as a teenager and played in one of the great sides of our times.
To have Shinton then Vinter was something anyone who gets to wear the red shirt should be made to aspire to....
Rest in Peace Mick
