Fowler was probably the most gifted midfielder we had, but the best midfielders in our time as a non league club were Keates and Harris without a shadow of a doubt.

Excellent question - tried to find an answer last night on the Macclesfield forum but they were both asleep
Contractually I assume you have a strong case if your employer fails to pay you so perhaps Macc took the option to allow him to leave. I still suspect that we will see some management changes in the summer and he will be part of that structure.

He's 32 and signed an 18 month deal.

That extra year could easily be a sticking point for L2 clubs.

We moan when we sign a youngster saying hes a kid with no experience,now its a case of hes over the hill at 32!!
Perhaps we should just sign players who are 25 yrs 4 months and 12 days old.
On the face of it Jay is a great signing. Just ehat we need. Some grit and leadership in the middle.

Each player is different. Some keep going strong until their late 30's like Keates, and others start to go downhill after 30. I'm not sure Summerfield is 30 yet, and he is starting to slow.

Injuries is the main factor in this of course.
