Default Re: How will you vote?

Am I worthy?
Fading memories of the early 70’s; standing on milk crates in the Mold Road paddock, Andy Lochhead running riot for Villa in 1970, did I want onions on my burger, Len Fairclough being paraded at half time and cigar smoke on Boxing day. To ‘77 and Rachid Harkouk spoiling the promotion dream; a blessing in disguise for what happened next.
The first 3 months of ’78 and the cups; Bristol City 3-0 and two missed penalties (the best ever Wrexham performance?), Dalglish’s Liverpool, Newcastle, Blyth Spartans on a frozen pitch and Arsenal all watched from the paddock or Yale stand. Putting six through Tranmere in the league, losing to Chester and then the Rotherham promotion game. Bobby Shinton, a magician and elegant Les Cartwright, coaches all the way up Mold Road. Seeing George Best on the Racecourse pitch – he still had it!
Beating West Ham 4-3 the following season and John Lyons sticking it to the Mold Road moaners with a hattrick “come and stand up here lad”. Away at Everton in the Gwladys Street in ’80 and the game when the fog came down in ’81 (Grimsby?)
Relegation and its a bit of a chore; that’s it, I’m done, no more. Until Saturday comes.
Eventually weaned off and better things to do every Saturday like earning a living. Pick and choose; Roma, Real Zaragoza, away at Chester on the night of Lockerbie and of course Arsenal in ’92. In the Yale paddock right behind Noddy’s freekick.
Internationals; on the Anfield kop in 77, the Border stand paddock in ’78 to see Ian Edwards put 4 past Malta, on the kop thrashing England 4-1 in ’80 and returning from Ninian Park a few days later to find my motorbike trashed in the club car park at 2 am – thanks for the help Crosville night shift!
Moving away in 2000 and missing all the fun, except the trip to Wembley on a bitterly cold day with my young son.
Returning in 2015 for old times sake with my kids in tow; a cheap afternoon. The old ground looks tired except this ‘new stand’. And then it slowly gets to you again, although not for my kids, “I’ll come to keep you company Dad, that’s all”. After a gradual start, most games in the Rickets season - a bit of professionalism. The Salford game; is something starting to happen?
A season ticket for the next season; a bad decision “I could have got into this side in my youth”, the embarrassment of the Barrow game in the wind and rain, no memories to cherish since; Luke Young the only positive.
And here we are, up to date, enough of a fan?
Probably not; but I can say I was there during some of the best times and I’ll be voting yes next week.

Default Re: How will you vote?

seventies, were brilliant, it does seem like it was constant success till you get the old programmes out and it was not constant but more often than not there was a good cup run in league, fa or cup winners cup, gradually rising up the league, unlucky 77, fantastic 78, pretty good 79, not so good 80 then things went down hill, but it was those days that ensured i have been a Wrexham fan with no other team (other than Wales), those days in the seventies forged many of todays Wrexham fans, there have of course been following successes, a good run in the nineties, trundle and morrel era, leyland daf, fantastic day, wembley win, there have been good and bad but none of the bad times of the past made me feel like giving up as the last few seasons have, and its not just me, there has been something wrong for a few seasons now but instead of pointing fingers i just want the chance, the chance that is being offered, please members, i am begging you as a father and Taid, give us the chance to see just how far we can go, please i implore you let this deal go through
