The fourth episode of The Wrexham Legends Lounge podcast is now out in the wild, with former Town 'keeper Mark Cartwright joining us for a natter about his time at the club, getting his chance as #1, his Kung Fu Cartwright skills, falling out with Flynnie, playing for Shrewsbury, nearly punching one of his own players after that late Lee Jones winner against the Slops, and his pretty bonkers career progression from lower league goalkeeper, to Technical Director at Stoke, to now working with the FA.

Really interesting, I have to admit I didn't know much about Cartwright and his career. I remember not rating him much (apart from the Citeh match) at the time but I was a kid and I dont think I appreciated how young he was at the time.

Always thought Mark as one of the poorest keepers I have seen at Wrexham if Iam to be honest.Can always remember Wrexham defending the Kop end and Mark dropping the ball twice on the line and then scooping it away the leader said he pulled off a fantastic save.

I think a lot of us just think of that amazing City game and then a few other absolute clangers. Turns out the fella's had quite the rollercoaster ride over the years.

I remember Mark as a keeper who was capable of brilliance and calamity in equal measure. With the benefit of hindsight, you have to remember that (a) he was playing the equivalent of League 1 standard and (b) he was up against Andy Marriott, probably our best ever keeper. I am too young to have seen Dai Davies.

I'd say that's a totally fair assessment, and he's pretty honest his own ability levels these days, too. As he put it, that City game was the match where he finally realised his potential for a moment in time, but that he also worked his arse off to get a chance as #1, only to then take his foot off the gas and become complacent once he finally got to be our first choice.

His kicking was awful, remember many goal kicks going out for throw ins!
