Solihull i think will be up there- they've got a better squad than NC and Cheaterfield, and nobody is talking about them... i could be wrong mind you! Woking seem to be getting stronger as well.... but I'm confident, we are getting better and better, Altrincham are a better team than their league position indicates and we mullered them today. Onwards and upwards.
There is absolutely no way that SM have a better squad than Notts. They have a good squad and should be playoffs but I don't think it's as good as Notts squad.

Notts county’s first xi is excellent, arguably better than ours. If we were doing a combined xi I would take 6 of their players mainly in midfield with Ruben, Palmer and O Brien who seem to keep things ticking. A combined xi of us and Notts would win the league two title comfortably and with games to spare.

However, their reserve team isn’t good and they have the 3rd smallest squad in the national league. If they get a few injuries they will go on a bad run imo.

Two games for them next with Bromley at home and the in form Southend away. My prediction is that we will be top after the next two games

Two years ago we drew 0-0 with Barnet following 3 defeats.
Torquay were top.....

There’s at least 2 leagues in the NL, 5 decent teams and then ‘the rest’. 1 automatic promotion place is an absolute disgrace, and leaves little room for error. I won’t believe we’re in a good position until it’s mathematically certain. There are some very poor teams in league 2, any of Wrexham, NC, Chesterfield, Solihull would survive (less sure about BORINGwood). What’s the betting that if we do get automatic promotion the rules are changed the following season. Until then I’ll always feel like we’re going into the playoffs …. Nervous until the end.

Do you think we'll buy a top central midfielder this winter to address our main weakness? If so, who? And where would they fit into the team, at the expense of whom?

I personally don't think we will. All a bit of guesswork of course but I think we look good enough and have enough cover in the squad as it is. As much stick as our midfield seems to get now that Tunnicliffe has come in we look far more solid and are dominating games all over the pitch. Every part of the side looks strong and we have O Connor fit again on the bench and Elliot Lee who is as good as it gets off the bench. I'd be far more worried about squad depth if I was a Notts/Chestedfield/Solihull fan.

I would say it’s a 6-horse race:

Wrexham
Notts County
Southend Utd
Chesterfield
Solihull Moors
Woking

All sorts could happen to us to derail our challenge. The worst being we simultaneously lose both Mullin and especially Palmer. What then?

I'm not convinced Notts County have a better 11, but agree that their midfield is stronger than ours. Hopefully either our midfield improve or a suitable replacement is found.

Who are you dropping? I'm certainly not dropping Davies or Lee for any of them. Fowler when he could be arsed was clearly talented but I wouldn't want him in the trenches with me, where as Young, like Keates will run through brick walls for his teammates and his goal threat from set pieces is just as good. JJ has a much better engine than Harris, covers better, has more goal threat and has a brain and I still have high hopes for TOC.

I know it goes against the grain, but I'm more than ok with our current midfield at this level and think many are blowing things out of proportion.
