I find it strange when people slaughter him, the most consistent out the lot of them.

Plus, is he really a defensive midfielder or just the best one to do that role without a DM?. So the "poor positioning" shout which is fair one, can be excused to a degree. It's not been his natural position for the vast majority of his career.

There is a reason we dont dominate games away from home and for me he is part of that problem.
Better players take up better postions and break down the game better.

Fans watch games as a fans and only take notice when the player is involved, next time you watch Wrexham just Watch him for 5 minutes and see how he gets dragged to ball all the time instead of just holding his position and blocking the angle and not letting the pass get to forward line.

Hes a really good solid NL player but for me even in the WST days we have had better Keates, Harris, Penn, Summerfield, Walker etc.

Small margins in this league i got hammerd a few weeks on here for suggesting taking Cleworth out of the team its absolutely no coincidence that Mcfadzean and Tozer look better now thats happened.

If we had Dean Keates for example, that MF is transformed over night and players who actually played at a higher level quality will come out more. Lee Davies Jones O' Connor have all played at a higher level there is a reason for that.

To be fair to him he came to as a more forward thinking MF and was pushed futher back, for me the DM is one of the most important positions on the pitch and as i said i cant fault his desire and passion but that knowhow, experience and being horrible is something we massively lack.
Excellent post

Hard to disagree with that although I am sure many will, Chuck in what Percy says about his rash fouls in dangerous areas or giving penalties away and it’ll be hitting the nail on the head. I think I must have ‘Youngy’s’ family behind me because every time Mullin or Jones do any thing decent it’s always ‘well in Youngy lad’ quite comical really.

There must be a reason why he is always the first person to wear the armband. I guess he is a positive influence on the other players and is well respected by them as well as being a good player.

I heard a Mullin interview and it definitely felt like he was respected. I don't think he would get in the Notts County team, but think he would any other team in this league.

And because he is a good player, our player of the year twice and still an important member of our all star team. Parky is no soft touch, he would have been replaced him if they didn't rate him.

Young has come on leaps n bounds this season, his workrate is 2nd to none & is key to our midfield, his corners are class too.

It tends to be when he doesn't play that most fans realise he is invaluable to this squad.
Time to appreciate what we have got.

I don't really agree as I cant remember him ever having an extended period out of the team to make that judgement. I know some have used Chesterfield away this season to support that point, but I think you need more than one game to suggest him playing/not playing is the difference. He played in the previous away game at Chesterfield where we were also destroyed for the first half, but got lucky that they didn't score.

In terms of how we would manage without him, I would need to see a few more games to make a judgement. I can also understand in a tight league why Parky wouldn't want to experiment . Notts County have better midfielder than Young, so I think it's not impossible we could manage without him
