Default Ratings for ALTRINCHAM (A)

Difficult game to rate due to the circumstances, but worth it because so many hopefuls on parade.

LAINTON (6) - No howlers but too much punching and still rooted to his line.

HALL-JOHNSON (3) - Very poor in all areas. Cannot see him picking up.

CLEWORTH (7) - Another solid game but think his future is not as a CB.

BUTLER (7) - A very impressive debut. Strong and composed. Hopefully has a very bright future.

LENNON (7) - A step up on his Scun*thorpe performance. Hope he is fully fit soon.

Dave JONES (7) - Wow! What a performance at 41! Great example to all the players.

James JONES (7) - Busy and his shot nearly knocked the keeper over.

CANNON (7) - Classy player but still not match-fit. When he is we will have a good player.

DALBY (7) - Held the line well and works hard.

BICKERSTAFF (8) - Goals win games. Good positioning for his first, but the second was very impressive.

That was a good work-out on a sticky pitch that must have sapped the players legs. More good than bad, but I think the 2 wing-backs were weak and offered little or no threat.

Result 10

Yes we want to win everything, but there’s one priority this season, let’s make it happen.

Although I paid for and watched the stream, I unfortunately could not give the game my 100% attention, so feel a bit uncomfortable giving ratings for the entirety of the game.

Agree with pretty much everything above and similar comments from the post-match thread.

I was hoping to see more from Cannon and wonder if 3 might be a little harsh on RHJ. As other have commented, it does seem like some signs of lack of enthiasm and motivation and wonder if this is something that can be resolved.

From what I remember, I thought Lennon's penalty was pretty good. So maybe give him an extra .25 for that!

LAINTON (5) - Not great. Flapped at a cross that led to the first goal and looked off the pace. Howard firmly remains number one on this performance.

HALL-JOHNSON (4) - So often let down by poor ball control. Pen was dire. Game to forget.

MCALINDEN (5) - Threatening going forward but really struggles defensively.

CLEWORTH (5) - whole defence struggled to get to grips with Alty. Too many moments caught out of position for me.

BUTLER (5) - grew into the game but really struggled early on. It’s a big step up from reserve football!

LENNON (6) - Easily the most capable of the back 3. It’s such a shame he can’t retain a good level of fitness as he’s quality when available.

Dave JONES (6) - struggled mobility wise but his ability was there for all to see. We struggled when he went off.

James JONES (7) - Busy and our best midfielder on the night. So much energy to get around the field.

CANNON (6) - Glimpses of quality but clearly needs minutes to get up to speed.

DALBY (6) - Always a threat and linked up well with Bickerstaff.

BICKERSTAFF (7) - Such a difference from what we saw 12/18 months ago from Bickerstaff. Nice turn of pace, really good finish for the second. Not sure he’s quite at a level to be fetching off the bench but working with better players has improved his game hugely.

Really good to see some of the other squad members getting game time and a shame they couldn’t hold out for the win in normal time - it does let us focus on the league though!!

Lainton - 6: Did fine. Maybe should have done better for their first hut it was tricky. 2nd was an unlucky bobble on a cut up pitch, very harsh to blame him for that.
Cleworth - 6: Again, thought he was fine in bad conditions.
Butler - 7: I like him. Obviously not there yet but one to keep an eye on.
Lennon - 7: Thought he was solid, too.
Hall-Johnson - 5: I think 3s are harsh, but he was ineffective.
McAlinden - 4: So anonymous PD forgot to rate him. I don't know how many more chances he gets.
D. Jones - 6: You can tell he's class just his body can't play at the same level his footballing brain can.
J. Jones - 6: Ran about, I know he's energetic but he had to do the running for two people with the other Jones being on his last legs.
Cannon - 6: There's glimpses but he's not settled in yet. Came in highly rated so hopefully can come good.
Dalby - 6: He won a lot of flick ons but he never looked like scoring. I do like him though, he seems to blow hot and cold though.
Bickerstaff - 8: Got two goals and is proving to be a good prospect who can do it in the senior team. Man of the Match.

SUBS
Didn't think the youngsters who came on did much but was nice to see Austin, Dan Jones and James get some minutes. Will only do them good.
