Sorry to start a thread of its own but want as many of you as possible to read this.

Walking down the Mold Rd after the game a little lad and his dad behind me; he must have been 7 or 8.

”Dad, how many times have we been to see Liverpool? 20? We never been in atmosphere like that have we?”

Job done. Memories made and fan for life. So proud of all of us today.

”Sheffield Utd have dont what they needed to do by getting early goal to quieten the crowd.”

5000 Wrexham fans singing Super Phil Parky very loudly in background.

Sorry to harp on about the old days but it really did take me back to the Bristol City / Newcastle games in the 77/78 season. Th crowd oozed belief and the players fed off it. Utd looked shell shocked when the 3rd went in.

I couldn't get a ticket so watched on BBC....

That crowd was loud...it must have been fantastic to be in it!
The MotD presenters were all very complimentary of it, very impressed.

The Blades fans in the bar I watched the match became very quiet as the game went on.

You're dead right.
That 70s team held its own, and more, against higher league teams but could struggle against lower sides - remember Blythe!
This Wrexham team also struggled against Blythe but since then has dominated all the games, well for 70 mins v Coventry.
That 77/78 team had been built over almost a decade by John Neal and his Youth policy and then weaponised by Arfon Griffiths and his astute signings after just falling to get promotion the prior season. So by 1978 we were used to victories against top sides in England AND Europe.
This current team, in comparison, has matured almost in an instant. We have the similarity of a cruelly missed promotion last season, but no real recent giant killing history. So this dominance against higher league teams has caught me by surprise, despite the fact that we have many higher league players on our books.
But the parallels are still there and whilst any comparison with a team from over 40 years ago is doomed to be flawed, let's remember that the 1977/78 team went on to dominate the league that season and won an early promotion as champions.

That 1978 team were fantastic, and we have lived more in hope than expectation that we would ever see those days again, but now is our time, we can sign players of a good age, we would have struggled to secure even when we flirted with the old second division.
