Default Wrexham vs Sheffield Utd dominated ESPN viewership

From: https://worldsoccertalk.com/tv/inter...ST-417989.html

As all FA Cup matches are streamed on ESPN+ here in the States, fans were able to watch Wrexham in action. And they came in droves.

Although the viewing numbers for the Wrexham against Sheffield United FA Cup game are not publicly made available, World Soccer Talk has learned that the game was a hit.

Wrexham-Sheffield United was the most followed soccer game by users across all of ESPN’s digital platforms, including ESPN.com and the ESPN App, according to an ESPN spokesperson.

Other soccer games on the day included: Brighton versus Liverpool (FA Cup), Real Madrid against Real Sociedad (LaLiga), PSG-Reims (Ligue 1), Napoli-Roma (Serie A) and Bayer Leverkusen versus Borussia Dortmund (Bundesliga).

Devils advocate

Other teams games at worse times for US audiences and easier to get alternative streams etc

Even with that being the case , it's still amazing ... kind of thing we could only dream about until recently

ESPN+ is a paid subscription service.. you don't get it with basic cable. so generally the demographic is likely trending up to households that also pay for Hulu, Disney+ etc. Great for Wrexham that the appeal is very high among a treasured demographic... paying customers. bodes well for Wrexham financially in the future for sure.

I still can't get over what a savvy investment this has been for Rob/Ryan. Great club, fantastic community, huge upside with a new global brand... no doubt this is a multi-decade journey. these numbers are very very promising.

Like all good investments it wasn't obvious at the time it was done and no one else wanted to take the risk.
Even after they bought us I never dreamed that they would be making the investments they have done and certainly not getting the phenomenal market interest that they've achieved.
Stands by for lots of copycat investments now - its the way of the market!

The National League are getting unbelievable promotion, something the EFL I'm sure would like. But other clubs in this division are getting attention too which could lead to expanding their fan base OR copycat investors taking a punt in them, so they should welcome it. Wouldn't surprise me if there are new Chesterfield, Notts County or even Dover fans around the world due to the coverage.

I would be very, very worried for anyone trying to make a copycat investment. Few people have the marketing and story crafting talent of these two, and it is difficult to get the average person to care about yet another one of these projects. Football clubs are a great way to make a small fortune out of a large one, when global levels of engagement don't materialize.
