Barrow made the right call at HT and hooked their CB who was a liability. They deserved their point and would have won it if not for that diving save by Howard. We've won 40% of the points available so far. Early days but its definitely been a 4/10 start to the season. |

Re: The table doesn't lie
the continuation of summer silly season .
The table means nothing right now . We've lost one game to a team who are up at the top when we were undercooked after an unconventional pre season One win sees us likely jump into the top 10 - 2 wins probably sees us in the top 6 . Equally this means nothing at this point of the season . We're creating more chances than any team in the league - we moved back to a more sensible line up on Saturday and looked better defensively . Mullin & McClean will make a huge difference . Not now usually to compare us to other teams , but if we'd have played Notts Count's first 5 ,we'd likely be sat exactly where they are Can't wait for us to go on a decent run on form , not just because of where it will put us in the table, but also to put those who are wetting be bed , or predicting the manager's sacking walk away from the keyboards and fade into the background again

Re: The table doesn't lie
Well, my title for this thread was much more of a trigger than I ever intended. I appreciate the feedback, and I'll give more thought to the thread titles in the future.
Please also allow me to clarify my remarks, especially for those who didn't get past the title. Our current table position is NOT indicative of where I expect us to be by the end of the season. We are a stronger team than most in this division. I do expect us to be promoted. The question is whether it's automatic or by lottery of the playoffs. In the preseason poll, I voted for top 3 and anticipated some poor periods that would be resolved by Parky dipping into the transfer market. I was anticipating that being the January window. The reality is that our start has been poorer than I expected. Not because the fixtures were harder and not because our preseason was poor. It was because our many injuries led to threadbare matchday squads and us not playing well enough for 90 minutes. Our poor points total has been almost entirely self inflicted. I can accept that MK Dons and Swindon were crazy games influenced by our acclimatization to the league, but Wimbledon and Barrow were our fault, caused by missing players and thereby having a lack of options. The injuries have exposed the fact that some of our squad are not up to what we need over the season. Those 4 lost points are gone forever and could be the difference between automatic promotion and playoffs. For those comparing our start to Stockport's last season, if they had 4 points more then, they would now be playing in league 1 instead of languishing below us in 19th position in league 2. All is not lost, indeed far from it. I havent seen anything in the other teams that particularly scares me. Their attacks are more clinical than I anticipated, and their defences are weaker. When SPM and our many other injuries are back (which I anticipate in the next week or 2) then we will rise up the leagues, but we do now have a bit of a hill to climb to the end of the season. And when we have a few more injuries and suspensions, then this start has told us that our squad cannot compensate as much as we expected. The solution is some new players of course, 3 in my estimation (and with pace please), and other threads go into some detail of who and why. I don't relish Parky's job in doing this. The price expectations are higher now, the Wrexham tax will be rigorously applied and we have just a few days till the window closes. Come the start of the 46th game of the season we could all be debating what we need to do in that game to get promoted and how a point lost or won here or there during the season affects it. Now is the time for proactive action. This is not a panic situation. If we can't get those players in, then we still have a good shot at promotion, and I still believe we will get it. But if we do get that new blood in, then I fully believe we'll be in the top 3 with some margin.
