Indeed their Chairman said this in Monday's programme notes.

I'd imagine it's only us and Chester who rely on their matchday income to generate funds to such an extent

This. That's why getting it right on the pitch is much more important than fannying around with anything else.

I think Macclesfield do as well. Their owner's either skint or puts barely anything into the club so their budget generally comes from matchday incomes.

That's what a Macc fan told me anyway.

Probably true and would account for why Chester, Macclesfield and us are not really threatening the play offs in recent years.

Although it should be acknowledged that our gate receipts are double and sometimes triple what those two get. There is no doubt we've underperformed.

The problem with us is we have higher outgoings. Our ground is costing us more to run and look after than any of the smaller teams in this league and we also have the academy to run. If we had a small ground like chester we would end up having more money to spend on players. But then again if we went up or had big cup games at home we would loose a lot of potential income through the gates.

We were always in for some lean years after taking control of the Racecourse and the huge deficit that created. Luckily the Trust ensured we were in a financial position to do that and with the buy-in from fans with 'MyRacecourse' and backing 'BtB' we look to have come out the otherside.

We have under performed since Morrell's 1st & 2nd season, but we have paid the price for a lack of consistency/stability with managers & squad since then. This season has to be about having a real tilt at promotion but also continuing to stabilise the club, so we are the big club we should be.

Now DK's contract, BtB and some transfer sell-ons, we mt have kick started some better times, this is when our 4,000 plus crowds should really make the difference in the type of players we can attract.

Always the optimitimist.

Those who went would have seen a pitch in excellent nick with a decent sprinkler system. The cost of all that was £1 million and paid for by Arsenal.
