Another new signing for manager Dean Keates, as he brings in winger/forward Jonathan Franks on a contract until the end of the season.

A former Middlesbrough trainee, he returned for a second spell with Hartlepool United last summer but left when his short-term contract expired and a transfer embargo on the club meant they couldn’t extend his deal further.

The 27-year-old, who scored six goals in 22 appearances during the first half of this season, is comfortable playing on either flank or in a central striking role and has been training with St Johnstone since leaving Hartlepool.

While at the Riverside, he played 30 times of his boyhood heroes, including one Premier League appearance, against West Ham United in 2009. There were also loan spells with both Oxford United and Yeovil Town.

The Stockton-born player previously turned out for Hartlepool between 2012 and 2015, making 143 appearances and scoring 16 goals following his arrival from Middlesbrough.

Franks then left Teesside to link up with Ross County and he had success north of the border, playing his part as the Scottish outfit lifted the League Cup in 2015/16. He played nearly 50 games in the SPL before leaving the Staggies eight months ago.

“I had a word with Nicky Deverdics when I learnt of Wrexham’s interest and he said I would enjoy playing here, so here I am,” said Jonathan.
"It's been a bit of a whirlwind, a mad 24 hours, but also enjoyable and I'm looking forward to getting started."

The player's eligibility is still subject to his International Clearance being received and registration accepted by the National League
