Him leaving makes perfect sense from many factors, but not that one.
Sorry for the confusion, I was making the point that his original contract may have had a bonus clause.....but because he didn’t see it out he didn’t qualify for it.
Once he decided to leave it was a consequential beneficial by product of him going. I hope so anyway.

sorry for misunderstanding! I agree it is a legitimate after thought. if only we could have a sneak peek at the contract

I can't help but think it's a blessing in disguise rather than a headache him leaving tbh.If we didn't go up this season and some of the draws turned to defeats how long into next season would it have taken for people to want him sacked and the impact that would have had on the budget paying off his long contract.Sounds like we played better football yesterday than normal and can't help but think a new manager will get more out of this team than Keates would have.

I would imagine there is a strong possibility that any release clause would take account of our league position at the time of him going, and make him ineligible, or reduce that bonus.

It is perfectly possible that the Club have had a double whammy cash bonus/saving from him leaving.........the Walsall money for activating the clause and keeping money in our pocket that would have gone to Keates if he took us to promotion/playoffs.

Let's hope some of the latter is spent anyway, when the new man (or existing management team) finishes the job that Keates started.
Never thought of it that way but if it's true it would quieten some of the frothers on here surely, or would it?

It all comes down to do we trust our board to do their best for us or do we keep sniping saying they should have done this that the other.

Like the fans do at every other club when they lose 2 or 3 games or drop easy?? points.

I was thinking along the same lines myself we seem to have been playing in a straight jacket all season.

Makes a change getting compo for a manager as opposed to paying them off.
