They nearly all want to do well, are fit, and put in the effort. But they lack the ability and pace to dominate games. Unfortunately, the best coach in the world could do much to improve those 2 obvious limitations. Hence why we have been set up to defend well and hope we can nick a winner.

To be fair, these players and tactics have got us into the POs. It certainly isn’t pretty or entertaining but it may yet be successful. I hope so but am not convinced.

What does Akil Wright bring to the team. From what I have seen, he adds a bit of physicality, but can’t pass or tackle particularly well. What we miss, going back to the end of last season - Penn or further back, a fowler, a Keates. Until we put players in midfield that can keep hold of the ball, we will spend every game defending deep and hoofing the ball anywhere.

Personally I would change to a midfield three, of carrington sitting deep, wedgebury pushed higher up (where he can use his so-called engine to close down the opposition), and either Deverdics or Kelly as the more creative player. Stick Quigley, boden and Holroyd upfront as a three.

Fantastic first paragraph, also Wright won't be very fit as he has hardly played this year, no reserves he won't be matchfit, agree about his passing to he is very similar to Wedgebury who couldn't pass a parcel, disagree about Carrington in midfield fullback at best, but you comments about a Penn when he first arrived or Fowler type of midfielder is right.

I did think initially it was a good idea to keep things as they were . But after watching the last couple of performances l have changed my mind . A new manager brings the best out of players they have to proove themselves and give an extra 10 % , also he would have had time to look at who he wanted to keep or to release . That all being said it could have pushed us forward , and for me Davies and Darlington would still have been at the club anyway ......

The counter argument is that our recent manager recruitment process is very drawn out; so could we get the right man in quickly enough to become involved? Furthermore, if the Board has identified someone who is currently not available? Again, I don’t know.

I thought putting AD and CD in temporary charge would be the least disruptive and give them the opportunity to tweak things, and get more out of the players. Sadly, that hasn’t happened so far. They now have between 5-8 games to prove their worth. However, it seems likely that a new management team is need ASAP.

The only reason I suggest carrington in front of the back four is because he is the only defensive player we have that can actually read the game and make a five yard pass, without losing the ball. If you watch carrington when he does play midfield, he rarely gives the ball away, even if it is often a sideways pass. Maybe Raven could play that role. He looks decent on the ball and if I’m honest, better than most of our full-back options also.
