And of course once i saw the reds play it became very clear where we needed strengthening. I remember writing on here after seeing them win at Maidenhead about the MF lack of width and the need for a striker .

Whether the Board will learn is debatable I argued after the débâcle Of Millsgate that the board should bring independent football people in to advise them about the way forward . I still think its a good idea but i dont think it will happen
I have previously spoken to WST and exec board members about their control of the manager and have been told that they appoint the person to run the team and won't get involved in how he does it.
Serious recipe for disaster year on year. M9nthly meetings should take place where the manager has to report progress and what he is doing and the Board should ask questions and if necessary challenge the manager.
Problem is n9 one on the Board is capable of challenging the manager so nothing will change.

WAFC board is what I was referring to not WST board who quite rightly don't get involved.

This is where we fall down. No long term strategy to measure progress against. It's just let the manager do what they like. It's bonkers when you think about it, a board outlines how the club will achieve its goals and set out this to the manager and the manager agrees to it or doesn't. It seems at our club its let the manager do what he wants and we may get lucky and hit the jackpot and get promotion, but its very unlikely!

Manager's are paid to manage not be watched over continously, questions should be asked if things aren't looking good but it's the boards as well as fans job to back them, no manager worth his salt will put up with such interference & scrutiny from non football boards members, for that to work you need a director of football.

Exactly the manager needs to be answerable to someone.

After Garry Mills, that would seem obvious..... But it would need to be a paid position...

Would the board sanction that..?.

The manager is answerable to the board. Currently Spencer is first point of contact and speaks to Andy (and previously Keates) on a daily basis.
This has worked to the benefit of both parties.
It was a harsh lesson learnt from the Mills debacle.

Daily ! Really ? And you state that this has worked to the benefit of both parties but obviously not to those that really matter ....us the fans !
Nice to know that Spencer has these cosy chats with the managers is this the consistent reason nothing seems to change for the better ?
I know Spencer is a great servant of the club but this set up is wrong and needs looking at soon.
I appreciate that no manager will accept constant supervision but what appears to be no proper football type person experienced supervision explains so much regarding recruitment, tactics etc

You seem to feel that we need a Director of football.
This is a rarity in the lower leagues and the only club I'm aware of with someone in that position this year in the National league was at Hartlepool.
Some good it did them.
As far as I'm aware the contact between board and manager is there to ensure that any matters arising are dealt with. The board don't interfere with the managers role but after the Mills mess keep a watchful eye on things.
What is a proper football type person?
We had one on the board FOC when Barry Horne did the job. That was really useful. Not.
Wrexham have appointed many managers over the years, appointed by the Butchers, bakers, farmers and the shysters. Most clubs owners appoint managers. How much football experience do they have?
What is your solution that will not affect the first team budget, which is for the benefit of the fans.
