This is where people get it so wrong. They've done exactly what you said and handed over every available penny to first team managers. But we're bringing a knife to a gun fight, without the cash to make this approach work but without the vision or bravery to provide a real alternative.

How can anyone say we're getting more of the same? I wasn't happy giving the job to an apprentice manager again..but it's happened and we get behind him, I don't get all the stressing on here let him get of with it because you or anyone have no say in whoever he eventually signs we just have to hope he gets in right, their isn't any guarantees he will or won't get it right he basically as a manager is an unknown entity. His time as a player means zilch so all we cannot do is wish him luck

It’s funny how your post began with words that included “perhaps” and “maybe” then escalated into name calling and then a demand to give the manager adequate funds - absolutely absurd.

How do you know what the playing budget is exactly? How do you know that Ricketts isn’t getting the funds he requires?

The fact is you don’t know for sure - it’s mere speculation. Ricketts might well have the funds he wants and this is his method of recruitment.

But hey ho, slating the WST/Club without evidence to back it up seems to be the norm...

You are writing off a whole season for no real reason. All clubs at our level have no choice but to put every penny into first team players. I understand why you are disillusioned but the only real solution to gaining more funding for the youth setup is promotion.

Imagine the club turning round and saying that they were cutting the first team budget and diverting funds to the youth. There’d be hell to pay, just as there was when people thought Marx had a sniff of the first team. Some of those same people who didn’t want him or Evans anywhere near the first team are now criticising a lack of funding for youth. It’s laughable.

Two fatal flaws to your argument; firstly the assumption that the season is written off "for no reason" rather than because watching where it keeps going wrong but is repeated provides more understanding than you acknowledge. And secondly assuming that because there are fans who criticise someone like Olly Marx and others who call for a better approach to youth that the two groups must be the same people!

Until Salford have done their shopping, I don't think anyone should expect much movement, seems to be the same for most other clubs. They're busy offering 3 year deals and will be after the quality players we are after, that's guaranteed.

We'll be left with the left overs, fighting with clubs with similar sized budgets or slightly larger.

We can't compete for these players, well not enough of them. Not since the pre WST days and early into WST ownership. I think we'll be wise to admit this and look at other alternatives to put thousands into, such as scouting.

Moult came from a lower league and didn't do too badly, it helped the manager at the time knew plenty about him. A known quantity, a lesser risk, our manager or management team can't get the time to view players anywhere near as often, as we play at the same time as a potential transfer target usually.

So is there any truth that Coddington will be coming back in on loan? I have to say, I thought he was a great keeper at this level.
