Good evening.

Tonight we have signed a centre-back called Michael Nelson on a one-year contract.

Michael is very old with great experience and good knowledge. He is a leader of men and he knows how to win games.

He is as fit as a butcher's dog and he is a great man to work with.

We have just signed Sam Wedgbury, who's a local lad. He's experienced and knows the league and he's a player I've tried to sign many, many times.

He's a central midfield player. He's a competitor and he will be good for us.

We have just signed Shwan Jalal on a two-year contract on a free transfer.

Shwan has just won this division, playing 41 games and I think it's important to have a solid, reliable and decent keeper. On top of that, he knows what it takes to be a champion.

He will do well for us.

I quite like the simplicity of these announcements although describing your new Defender as "very old" doesn't seem very appropriate.

Looks like Chesterfield will be going for it then!

They are signing a manager and players who they know are right for this league, and also snapping up the best early on.

If we had signed this guy, people would be saying he is a journeyman who is well past his sell by date.

So far chesterfield have signed a goalkeeper we didn't want, a midfielder who played in the for a team who could score or create goals in this league last season and a centre half who seems to have come of of retirement to help out Barnet last season.

Oh and they have appointed a manager who recently hasn't been able to stay in a job to long.

In addition they are £9m in debt and know that if they stay in this league more than one season they really are in trouble.

Not very impressive signings from Chesterfield so far, you have to say. Maybe their manager will be able to get more out of them than we could. I wasn't a fan of Jalal but to be fair he can't be bad as he won promotion last season.

If that's the calibre of Chesterfield's signings then I'm not considering them a threat tbh. Looks like a standard mid table conference team.
