Simply put the youth method would never work for us. By the time you have the quality taken out by other clubs whats left would probably get us relegated. Its got to be getting players in who want to play for us and have the right attitude.

That's what we have to cling onto.... Football in general is in trouble I feel it's becoming ridiculous when clubs are asking and paying 80-100+ million for 28 -30 yrs old players then paying them £500000 + a week it's bloody obscene, meanwhile those clubs youth players never get a chance.

I think the Mills era was short termism, we appear to have started a period of stability even if DK leaving has set us back. It started with his 3 contract now followed Sam's 3 year deal and increasingly the offer of 2 year contracts for our better players. The situation off the pitch again seems to be going to plan and getting stronger year on year. The plan now (not great) is to run without reserve team and the youth team seems to be run on a shoestring to help finance our ambitions of promotion.

None of us can tell what will happen in the future and obviously my comments are more in hope than reality but everything has to be done one stage at a time. Maybe stage one is the hardest of them all - get back to Div.2. After that it will be staying there and building for better. It will certainly not be in my lifetime but faith has to play a part in supporting this Club otherwise I can see no point to it at all.

Ideally we could have midweek games against Stockport, Chester, Crewe, Shrewsbury and other local teams who must all be in the same position with no reserve leagues in operation anymore. Even every other week would be helpful and with 5 or 6 teams it would not take much to organise.
You can play the others if you like. But a 'reserve game' with 300 coppers policing it, helcopter, horses etc; too expensive for both of us. The knuckle draggers BOTH of our clubs have would make it impossible.

I'm of the same opinion as pag, and unless things change we are just a run of the mill none league club.

Neither Macclesfield or Tranmere have reserve sides. It didn't seem to do either of them any harm on their roads to promotion.
