Default Re: Transfer rumours, speculation & associated discussion - summer 2018 (PART II)

Just had a look at the Walsall forum. Somebody “in the know” there reckons that Keates has made 5 offers for Pearson and that the last two were over 100k. It seems that there’s as much crap posted on there as there is on here regarding rumours.

Keates has also said that he has 4 targets lined up for every position. Now when have I heard that before?

Plenty of mention of Ollie Marx as well. Has he actually signed for them?

I imagine we are far too honest and straight to play games, but part of me hopes if Keates is showing an interest in Pearson we are just dangling the carrot when we have no intention whatsoever of selling just to see how he likes being buggered about.

First of all
Pearson is a KEY player, but every player has a price - would we sell if the price was right - surely yes. But do we now need the money

There must be 'quality' replacements around !!

Before the Ward transfer I would have been tempted to sell Pearson for over 100k, that is good money for a centre half with one year on his deal.

Now, we can afford to tell them to stick it....Pearson is a professional, even if he wanted to go (which I don't get the impression he does) I don't think we would see a dip in his performances, I didn't feel the same about Wedgebury.

Pearson needs a new contract to build a team around him.

Pearson should be offered a new 2-3 year contract so we can build a team around him.

And he'd almost certainly sign it as he will know he's not good enough for League 1 and end up looking for a move back down the leagues pretty quickly. I don't think he wants such instability. The problem is I suspect he and a couple of others are already earning such a slice of our budget that it is already affecting the club and to offer more will only make that worse.

Looking at the signings in attacking positions I think you are right, both Manny and Pearson must be taking up a substantial part of the budget. Looks like it’s hampered other areas to such an extent I’m not sure it’s worth it.

Agree - him and Manny on an extension now. Ward money can fund a slightly extra bit of money. It would have been my 1st priority if I were Ricketts.
