We never got to see last season whether maintaining our dull, but solid start could have got us somewhere. Its not making a target of nil-nil draws, its keeping a defensive shape, that the players are comfortable with, allowing better strikers the odd chance to finish.
I much prefer 4-3-3 and instructing both Wright and Young to sit, but move out wide to protect the full-backs would hopefully be as good expecting wingers to come back. I would allow Rutherford to do the carrying to attack, and Fondop and Holroyd to bang the goals in. The more attacking approach means a more fluid midfield, and means game time for more potential match winners (JMD, Hinds, Deverdics, Summerfield?). I'm struggling to trust them to get us over the line so far. |
