I would say Guesstimate and estimate are fundamentally different.
I can provide an estimate for a piece of work but I do need to understand the scope and other pertinent details to be able to make an informed and educated calculation.

However I am often asked for a 'guesstimate' which has more of an element of guesswork rather than spending time needed to make a more informed decision.

So take Doomandgloom who has looked at the surrounding seats and performed a rough calculation that 1 in 3 is empty and therefore 2,500 in a 3,500 capacity is probably a decent estimate. Whereas others have just looked at some pictures of the crowd and as it looks quite full then there cannot be 1000 empty seats.

When we play guess the crowd at a game then were usually around 300-400 out which is about a 10% variation and not bad but we obviously understand the numbers and how it looks historically and how the perception of a full stand can be misjudged.

Estimating is a bit of a science or in some cases an artform.

We aren’t the players or coaching staff. Who cares if people want to enjoy thinking about who we could draw?!? I really don’t get all this po faced ‘don’t be disrespectful’ ‘one game at a time’ stuff. Just enjoy being a football fan and dreaming about big games.
