And the season before that!

In all fairness to BH he’s seen that we struggle to create and score goals so it’s definitely worth trying these formations in the friendly matches.

Thats one of the key purposes of friendlies.
The right time to experiment so that the manager can see if it works.

Same as trying players in different positions.
Who would have put NKP down as a CB - stroke of genius.

Pele was a GK when he started.

When winning a game comfortably a switch to 343 might help score another 1 or 2 goals. Just an example. Likewise defending a 1-0 which we have done particularly well.

Maybe I’m slow but surely the point of a football management team is to assess all things before each game and formulate a plan. In my opinion even the pitch in terms of area and even condition. The opposition are of course also vital to how you set-up and then finally of course what happens in the games themselves. Going behind , down to 10 men , against 10 men all may influence set-up. It is much easier for the players if these potential scenarios are known and practiced in advance as well as ,of course, our ‘normal’ approach. If you are new to management then you have to formulate these solutions together with your team and see how they work in friendlies. Seems to me that the majority of those who attended this week were quite happy with what they saw and could appreciate the importance.

Bit different to what’s been claimed on here.

strange really, you can see the leader reporters recording device in front of the camera during the interview........he gets the same quotes as you watch! interesting interpretation! perhaps the club didn't put a spin filter on the video?

Lots of fretting on this thread after 2 kickabouts...

Preseason is about getting fit and up to speed for the season kick off, finding your best 11 to start and best formation.

Very worrying, but hopefully he will consult the “assistant manager” and come back down to reality.
Salford adopter this approach following us hammering them. They changed between a narrow counter attacking setup and a more free flowing attacking formation depending on the opposition. Seemed to work out okay for them.

or perhaps Richie spent more time talking to the management team obtaining further details than shown on a short video......

BH and CD were very talkative and open about their game plans and interested in fans thoughts on what they saw.

There are many playing styles all have pros and cons and have many factors influencing a particular style such as surface, the playing surface in Portugal was superb and nothing like some of the cabbage patches we will play on, both teams in the main kept the ball down and played some nice football.
I look back over the last ten years and it looked like we hardly had a plan A never mind a plan B. I don't know whether we will have this season.. time will tell.
Given time I am sure we will develop a way to win with the players we have, I just hope we have the creativity to break down teams that we face who are only interested in sitting deep and defending. From what I have seen so far I am looking forward more to this season that the last few as I think we might actually see a few entertaining matches....
