Default Formation

Worthy of its own thread and hopefully can stay on the topic off football as the mess of the pitch off the pitch is worse than what we are watching ..

Anyway ,

We need to go 4-4-2 ..

With JJ back I believe next week, it needs to look like the below.

Leighton

Barnum Bob. Pearson. Lawlor. Jennings

Rutherford/Grant (both not great) Young. A.Barton. Harris

J.J Hooper. oswell

Strikers need support and I would look at getting it early to the wingers and get quality crosses into the box , keep it simple ..

This season is fast becoming a right off unless we sort is quick and real quick ..

If the management donít change it and results donít improve , they will be packing there bags before October is out

Have you seen Bobb play? Carrington and Grant(especially first half) were both our best players yesterday, the side you have picked is destined for relegation. Adam Barton? 2 year deal and hardly had a touch tells you all you need to know, Barton is a bottlejob trust me.

So you would drop Chambers and reward Harrisís gutless performance with another start ?

I agree with this 100%. Carrington summed us up yesterday but at least he was tidy while looking disinterested. If you canít motivate Carrington you are really struggling as he simply wants to play for us.

I agree totally with 442 and get some points racked up.

Tollitt or Harris on the left and use sub 2nd half if needed.
Hooper coming back will help but not convinced with Oswell but maybe worth a go.

Jazzi Bobb is a concern and Carra defensively better but needs to overlap more.
Other 3 defenders OK when Lawlor returns.

We still lack the Walker replacement who Young could play alongside and push forward. RM hmmm Grant scoring too many so he’s out , Rutherford wont create much but Jazzi might and he doesn’t have to defend.

So thats sorted it then.

Default Re: Formation

I posted this on the pre match thread yesterday: -

IMHO no chance of winning if we line up 4-2-3-1 again as clearly the players have no idea how to make the system work. This is probably as a result of the coaches not having a clue either.

I would bring Lawlor back in for Chambers (not that Chambers has done much wrong, but Lawlor is better and it means Pearson reverts to the left side). Also if Hooper is fit he must play.

For me a straightforward 4-4-2 is the best system for these players.

Dibble

Carrington Lawlor** Pearson Jennings

Grant Barton Summerfield Tollitt

Harris Hooper

My team and formation wins 3-1 BH's formation loses 1-2 no matter the personnel

So my score prediction was wrong and i'm glad we got a point, but I don't think anyone would say we really deserved it.

4-2-3-1 is just too complicated for players at this level who don't have the class to make it work. Out of possession we leave gaps all over the field that are so easy to exploit. In possession, the players cant react fast enough to offer us anymore than the long ball option. With 4-2-3-1 you play through teams, we don't, we lump it to an isolated forward who either can't hold it up (all options bar Hooper) or who hold it but can't link play as the supporting players are out of position.

For the last three home league games Barnet Stockport & Maidenhead have set up 4-1-4-1. Each team has had a player in the 'defensive' 1 position who has controlled the game. The number 4 yesterday was in this role, breaking up our attack and playing short passes to bring the midfield 4 into play.

Not sure we have that player in our squad and we need better combinations up front, hence my 4-4-2.

I don't think we have the worst players / squad in the league. We do have the worst coaching set up imposing a ridiculous set up on the team.

Years ago, Palace were bottom of the championship at Xmas and got promoted. Not saying I want Ian Dowie at the club - just saying the season is not over yet if we act swiftly.

I am honestly astonished that everyone seems to want to drop Chambers!
For me the best centre half this season.
As for Tollit he seems to be able to get away with murder. At one stage yesterday he was put in past the RB then completely fluffed a cross yards wide. The moan road applauded - if that had been Wright (who was awful) god knows how it would have been greeted.

Also do not underestimate the role that the utter disaster Dibble is having on this team.

I agree about Chambers, he's done nothing wrong; I jus think Pearson needs to play left side and Lawlor accommodates this. It's the only area of the pitch where we seem to have some decent competition.
Dibble has to play at the moment - anyone who saw the Ayr game would be very nervous of Szczepaniak with the ball at his feet!

Default Re: Formation

Hughes is tactically naive ,who else would put 3 lightweights in the forward roles and then allow high balls to be pumped up none of which were won.
There was a complete lack of competitiveness in midfield without much harrying when not in possession and passes going astray frequently.
The players are just not motivated and an example was when throw ins were taken and the only person on the left who wanted the ball was Wright who normally won the ball.
I afraid Hughes has lost the dressing room and standing therein the technical area hands in pocket or folded showing no emotion says it all. Darlington and Flynn took notes , but most on here could see what was wrong and armed with this information do they cure the problem ,well no .
As for formation play with a system our players understand and not one that even meagre opposition can nulify.
