Saying Morrell would never have jumped ship is an unknown. If a League One club close to his heart came in for him and presumably trebled his wages it would be very tough to turn down for anyone.

Keates only used the kids to throw them to the lions to chuck a Trophy game doing more harm to most than good.

Keates is just following orders but he is quite happy to - he doesn’t get the long term bigger picture like Andy did.
I remember the debate but was always unsure whether that is what they genuinely thought or whether they used it as a smoke-screen to close down the reserves and CofE because they couldn't generate enough cash to keep them going and, importantly, seemed unwilling to look elsewhere for sponsorship/investment to keep them going.

I don't think many would argue Morrell is a top bloke and almost cracked it, but he never quite made the change from player to manager whilst here. Like many good folk, he did the wrong thing for what he thought was for best ie kept playing when his legs had gone.

If it were only between Keates and Morrell I would pick Andy; but we need someone better to replace Keates asap, before he does any more damage.

I think the one common thing here is that he shouldn't have neither in charge. Most people agree on that at least.

It's the mentality of a chosen few who can't separate logic from a panini sticker album they had when they were a kid. It's what happens to when your limit your options to folk who are in a certain person's contact list.

Now whether Morrell is or was the man to take this club forward is a fair debate, but surely what's not debatable is he was a better option at a crucial time than Lawrence and Hughes, as was Askey.

The only real positive from Jones and Harris making such a mind boggling decision is that's it's proven beyond all doubt ( if proof were needed) that they can't be trusted to run the business end of the business, but what a price we have paid and are still paying for that positive.

I've always favoured evolution rather than revolution, but not now, it needs the mother of all brooms both on and off the pitch.

I was a massive fan of Ricketts, but the longer time goes on the more it seems like they just dropped lucky with him. The Hughes appointment was utterly bizarre.

Nail on the head, football is all about luck and trying to influence that luck, otherwise how were Darlington and York promoted under Brian Little & Gary Mills. For managers it's about getting the breaks, some time, plenty of budget and getting bags of luck.

Agreed that neither should be manager going forward but it's always going to be someone of their levels.

Graham Barrow after a 13-year-absence from being a manager and didn't want to be a manager thought it best he took the job based on the quality of the other candidates that applied. God knows how poor they were, well we don't actually need to guess as next we had Bryan Hughes.

You could go into the crowd and find people with a better managerial C.V. than Hughes. Then we end up back with Keates, a man who would have taken any wage offered to him and would have probably put on a dress and danced for the board in his interview if they'd have asked him to.

Ricketts we seemed to strike lucky with but once realising how structureless our football club was quickly exited. Graham Barrow even alluded to it with his "We even had to pump the balls up" comments.

I mean we couldn't even entice Dennis Lawrence from the management job at Trinidad and Tobago.

Until the board goes we will not get better applicants than the likes of Hughes and Keates. We're a basketcase that is set-up to fail and everyone in the footballing world knows it. It'll take a lot of money to entice someone decent who will most likely end up having a big dent in their careers.

Still crying about that then?
