I agree that they shouldn't have to pay - there should still be grants (though I do think that there are too many students!)
My calculation was incorrect - on Plan 2, max loans not in London, a 30k loan is about £25 a month. The vast majority of loans will never be repaid in full, which is why they shouldn't be thought of as debts, but an extra sort of tax. It doesn't matter whether you 'owe' £10k or £500k, the monthly repayment/tax is the same.

It doesn't. Plan 2 works differently to how Plan 1 does (which I presume you were on), it would be £80 if it was Plan 1.

Hardly anyone will pay the whole thing back on Plan 2, not even close.
