Default New Fearless In Devotion podcast starring Andy Morrell

Evening all,

It’s the start of a new week and time for the lates FiD podcast.

This week we had the privilege of speaking to Andy Morrell.

We had such a great chat with him that we’ve had to split it in two parts. I think this one might be my favourite we’ve done so far.

Part one includes Mozza talking about how Joey Jones took him under his wing when he first joined the club, learning from Ian Rush, that crazy goalscoring season he had in 2002/03, what it was like playing with Carlos Edwards and Lee Trundle and why he didn’t sign a new deal.

Hope you all enjoy it as much as we did recording it!

Just a very nice man who loves the club. Could listen to him all day.

He’s got it wrong about Thornton though, he wasn’t at the club when we were up against Fleetwood. Him and Wright both got injured but towards the end of the following season I think which was why Wright missed the playoff final.

Didn’t Wright break his elbow after scoring at home vs Braintree? Such a huge miss for the final.

Listened during my lunch hour and really enjoyed it - thanks for taking the time to put it together.

I’m happy to admit I was a little harsh about his time as manager. Time has taught us that he probably had to deal with significant cuts to the budget - albeit at the time, we were told by the WST that we had a significant war chest available for players.

He is a top bloke and I would love to see him take on a coaching role at the club because he is the perfect role model for any young player.

Agree with FOg great guy, great interview and looking forward to part 2 next week.

Interesting that history has treated Saunders more kindly, everyone who played under him seems to love him

We should start a campaign to make him a club ambassador under the new regime.

Got injured v Brighton the season before then got injured again playing in a dead rubber in 12/13 if I recall.

Dead rubber vs Braintree, you’re right. Was 1-1 though, we didn’t win.

There’s quite a bit in next week’s episode on why he left. You can probably guess some of the reasons but sounded pretty gut wrenching for him.
