Nothing could be worse than the announcer that was at Harrogate. Some sort of local radio ‘celebrity’ who thought he was hosting a wedding disco. His attempts at rousing the home crowd and getting them to clap or whoop failed miserably as none of them could be arsed. The intervening music mostly Ibiza floorfillers was so un-Harrogate, it was a complete case of misreading the room.

To be fair, though I’m not a fan of his TV commentary, I think he would be ideal. The match day announcer needs to have a good level of intelligence (especially literacy intelligence) and sensitivity, an ability to whip up an atmosphere , and ideally a real passion for the club. That’s his skill set.

I think he is his son. Out of interest, why are you wound up by that?

His diction is clear. My Welsh is abysmal, but I understand some of what he says.

He lacks experience; but doesn't everyone when we first start.

Ask the club what their plans are for the position. I am sure they will interview anyone who's interested in doing a better job!

Yes, he is and he's been doing the Welsh announcements for some time. Strangely some had no issue with his performance until they found out who his dad was.
