A utility player would be very handy. Scoring a hat trick when you're not playing as striker is very impressive also.

My understanding is Gateshead have agreed to let manny join us if/when they themselves get cover.

If you saw him for Kettering against us. Started left back with a bandage round his head. Second half in midfield. I think we won but I thought he was mom. For FGR he was good but that for me has always stood out.

He was the standout player against us for Kettering and Tamworth, left sided.

Gateshead have recently seen a number of defenders leave including :

Liam Hogan to Salford City (fantastic when he played here last season)
George Smith to Northampton Town.

They have brought in Neill Byrne from Macclesfield Town (more a full back).

So perhaps they are a bit reluctant to release Smith without finding cover themselves - and they don't have to as he has another 12 months contract.

Sounds a bit like a chain with a house move - how long will it take Gateshead to find cover so they can feel confident to release Smith ? How long does Keates wait before looking elsewhere ?

If the ex Halifax lad Roberts who has been released by Barnsley is available I would snap his hand off - massive centre back and always impressed when he played against us (that's why he was taken on by a Championship club) - might be out of our range though.

Is he the one who played for Stevenage when they went up from this league? If so he was the best centre-back I've seen in this league.

Different one I think . That one has been released by Cambridge ?

Played alongside Jon Ashton for Stevenage . They didn't concede many that year.

Agree with above - confusion reigns.

It will be the Mark Roberts released by Cambridge United - the plus is he hails from Northwich and did have stints at Fleetwood & Stevenage - he could well be a realistic option.

The other Marc Roberts was at Halifax Town - he moved to Barnsley on a 3 year deal - massive 6' 5'' brick outhouse - just researched him and he has played almost every game for Barnsley for the last two seasons and made club captain - supposedly now interesting Premiership Burnley.

We'll have to settle for the Cambridge released version.

He's the one I was thinking of, cracking defender.
Must be early 30s now though?

Had a good partnership with Albrighton at Stevenage.
