If he felt that the existing team was adequate to meet his own target of no more than an improvement on last season, then there would be no need to invest £££ during the January window. On the other hand, if he could sense that with just a little tweaking - one or two new faces perhaps - the team could finish as champions or be promoted through the playoffs, he might be concerned that too few of them could meet the challenge of League 2 football next season. Those on longer contracts could mean us having weaknesses against teams a league up on where we are now. Would those players worry that they might be surplus to requirements if they achieved promotion, and would they give their all in that situation, knowing that it might be better for them if we stayed in the National League instead?

In DK's position, would you have been looking for players during the Jan window that were good enough for us to be promoted AND could perform in L2 - or would you be focussing on only bringing players that could consolidate our position now, and push on for promotion in 2018/19?

He made his decision during the window, and only time will tell the outcome.

If promoted with the current squad in another 15 games time, will our budget be big enough next season to compete in L2?

So, is Dk looking forward to mounting another new challenge in the National League next season, or have his ambitions extended to building for life in L2 from next August onwards?

Good post I would think as a manager Keates is looking at this season and next season in regards to playing in league 2 just look at Deverdics comments on why he came here, he said he wants to win promotion, obviously if we do miss out he has better quality for another go next season...

But believe me as a manager Keates is more focused on promotion this season, there is an old saying "tomorrow never comes" their is a great opportunity to go up this season and while it's their we have to go for it as next season it will get tougher.

With reference to the last two posts, can I be informed before I buy my Season Ticket if we are going to try to be promoted. If not, I'll wait until we are trying!!

Get promoted, worry about the rest later. If we're not going for promotion with the position we're in and the players we have, questions would need to be asked.

Thankfully I don't believe for a second Keates isn't giving it his all for promotion.

Spot on. Don’t worry about things we cannot control, but do what we can do to the best of our abilities. Let’s get promoted before we start worrying about perceived problems in League 2.

Can't help but get the feeling that we haven't really "gone for it" with our transfer dealings, good as the players we have signed look.
I just get the feeling we probably have a fair bit of money that was allocated for transfers remains unused. Not saying that is a bad thing at all, just that we probably haven't gone all out this year.
Ha, I’ve been to a few Grimsby matches this season, and haven’t seen anything to worry about in L2, including the leaders, Luton. Let’s just get there, I’m sure we’d cope admirably.

I've been to 3 games this year in League 2 and I really don't see a massive difference at all..

Albeit I think we would need 7 or 8 new players BUT pretty sure we would have a budget off at least 150K more which would be suffice to make us competitive..

Doesn't matter what any supporter thinks of him good or bad you go on the stats and his assists have made him valuable to the team. I am assuming that the coaching staff also take his work rate into effect as part of their analysis and selection.
he has gone up in my estimation from last seson.

very busy player and gives it his all on the pitch.

probably his last season with us

Argyle have a great chance of winning the League Two title next week but how much prize money would they receive?

The answer is: none!
There is no extra prize money for winning a championship because all League Two teams receive the same payments from the EFL regardless of finishing position.

Last month I asked those in charge at the EFL how much prize money would a title winning team receive and they confirmed there is no extra prize money for finishing top of League Two and no ladder system operates across all three divisions of the EFL.
So the title winner, will receive the same financial payments as relegated Leyton Orient.

Each League Two club will receive £472,000 as a 'basic award' plus a £430,000 'solidarity payment' from the Premier League.

Basic award across the EFL:
Championship - £2.084m.
League 1 - £677,000.
League 2 - £472,000.

Premier League Solidarity payment across the EFL:
Championship - £4.3m
League 1 - £645,000.
League 2 - £430,000.

Just shows how lucrative promotion is, with the further positive of a drop down payment if relegated.
