Who's to say he was in Sam first team plans anyhow. Pershaps he's done Sam a favour.

Also it wasn't done a week before the season, it was done well before pre season giving us plenty of time.

Good move for all parties and I wish him no ill. Get well soon.
Well said

He signed an extension to his contract, and in the space of a couple of months decided he couldn't commute anymore, told the club his old man wasn't well apparently, he said he'd be giving up football to work for his dad's buisness. How true this is I don't know, but it does make sense with regards to the club being as soft as we were.

He then signs for Chesterfield. I hope he recovers and I wish him well in future, he worked his balls off for us but he couldnt pass wind could he? A part of me is thinking there could be an element of karma here, with the club's goodwill being taken for granted.

Sam always gave us 100% On the pitch and was a great lad off it. It's best wishes and speedy recovery from me.

If he had told the club he was retiring so he could break his contract and then promptly signs for someone else then the club could have had a case to claim compensation against him. Nothing I have read or heard suggests it's true, it's all about distance from home. Not sure how a player picking up a serious injury is Karma, especially a player who worked his backside off for us last season. I would also say that as well as he did for us last season he probably wouldn't get in the current squad. In fact if he had stayed we may not have signed Summerfield. Get well Sam.

Why sign a contract extension then? If the distance was an issue you wouldnt would you...

Depends.

You personally want the security and are enjoying your football.

But personal circumstances change. Someone is ill. Pregnant. Partner all of sudden not happy your away alot, which causes problems in the relationship.

Unfortunately these decisions aren't always down to one person.

As some who works away from home, which results in tens of thousands miles driven per year, and hundreds/ thousands of hours a year sat in my car, resulting in my partner having to pick up the slack with a young family at home.

If all of a sudden she had enough. I don't think walking away from the job would be much of hard decision.

Because at that time it offered him a wage and security for another year. Like I say him telling us he was retiring then signing for another team days later would leave him open to being sued for compensation.

I have no question in my mind if chesterfield didn't come down this season wedge would still be with us. It's obvious and the way it was handled was poor. Luckily for us we don't seem to be missing him. I don't know where the retirement thing came from but if true Dixie isn't far off with the karma point.
