I think that old 50's barriers were replaced in the early 70's by the stanchion type we see in the pics. When the Safety of Grounds Act came in, because they were staggered they had to be replaced by barriers that allowed the fans out in straight lines so they were replaced and re-sited in the mid to late 80's. An old team mate of mine from Penley (John "Doc" Sadowski) was a welder for a local engineering company and he worked on the installation possibly around 1986.

Yes, guilty as charged. I posted it a while ago. My father and grandfather said they were tank traps for use if there was an invasion. The design allowed them to be rolled into position and then set in concrete.

It could be the ones that support the Kop bank were never used and were hanging around after the war ! who knows - They had a hole through the middle for engineers to place a makeshift 'axle to enable them to be rolled along the road.

If you google 'Round concrete tank traps' you might end up on the Lancashire at War site and there is a picture of a few. Perhaps a few of them should be saved and set aside - certainly a piece of Wrexham's forgotten History.

1926 and I stood cheering hysterically in the paddock in 1960 watching us beat a good old First Division Blackburn Rovers side 3-1 in the League cup. It poured down throughout and we were drenched but we didn't care. I still have the programme and the condition of it shows that it too was soaked. Just one happy memory in scores!!

If I remember correctly Derek Dougan and Peter Dobing were playing for Blackburn. I was standing with my mate under the tin roof area that is now where the Yale paddock and stand are positioned. The roof slanted away towards the back and was very low, so low that when we scored, my mate jumped up and hit his head on the metal stantion supporting the roof. Happy days.

Micky Metcalfe Hat trick v Blackburn Rovers: It was the 1960/61 season that saw Mike make the inside-left position his own, ... scoring a hat-trick against First Division Blackburn Rovers in the Football League Cup on the way.
