I can see why Keates was annoyed with him last night - just prior to being taken off he had a one on one with the last defender with a 50-50 ball. A bit more oomph would have seen him gain possession but he just failed to challenge. It was really pathetic, and I think I would have done what Keates did.

Good player though , who overall has been ruined by the coaching.

Just a few on RP think that we have a credible chance of the play offs (I am not one of them). But the manager doesn’t want to get into the play offs, so it ain’t going to happen. We used to say, win your homes and draw your away games, for promotion.
Keates is going to drive the team and fans into the ground. No shots on goal and a fluke point gained - please get rid of him now.

I feel more confident about RHJ than Reckord. Reckord is woefully inconsistent whereas you need a bit of stability from your wing backs in 3-5-2. Comparing these lads to Carlos and Paul Edwards together with Shaun Holmes, it's just chalk and cheese.

However, I feel it all stems from the midfield 3 and whoever Keates plays in there just isn't doing a job. Funny really as Keates was one of the best in the business (lower leagues, of course). They simply do not impose themselves on their opponents either physically or skillfully.

You have Young and Harris who are both 5'7" and like to put a boot in. Then, we have Davies and Jarvis who are a touch taller and better ball players but are lightweight at this level. Add it all together and it doesn't work.
Slightly off topic but who replaced Carlos as right wing back. I know we had Holt on the other side.

Your stability is simply bodies behind the ball, who cannot then attack. We then have a CF who isn't very good, with a winger playing off him.

KISS is best employed at this level, hence I still believe 4-4-2 would be a better platform to build on this season. Next season? Well, most aren't up to the required standard, so get rid and bring in better quality.
I think they are credible wing backs and have proven that by getting into advance positions to create and score goals.

I simply cannot see how we can play 442 with the midfielders we currently have. Young and Harris are too similar and sit far too deep whereas Jarvis and Davies are bit lightweight so 3 of those 4 gives us better balance.

Given that Keates loves Luke Young, he's not going to drop him so we'll be playing Young, plus two from Harris, Davies and Jarvis. I'd be looking at playing Harris holding and Davies from the left and Jarvis from the right.

But that is on the proviso that they'll get on the ball and play otherwise we may as well play Young, Harris and Horsfield and stink the place out.

Reckord is the worst left back/wing back we have had in the team at this level. Jennings was far superior. As was Ashton. Luke young has been so poor in the last 4/5 games I’ve watched and still starts every game. He could play 4-4-2 but I don’t thin any formation will make up for the lack of ability in the squad.

4-4-2

Lainton
‘Horse’ rb
Carrington lb
Kelleher cb
French cb
Harris cm
Jarvis/redmond cm
Davies lm
Dior/jarvis rm
Thomas fw
Dior/pont fw

Still a poor side however we look at it. Not enough goals in the side. And dibble isn’t good enough to stand in for Lainton.

Not for me. That team would get spunked on. Fair point about Reckord. Ever since Ashton was released, we've struggled with left backs.

My favoured team is:

Lainton

French - Kelleher - Carrington (just)

RHJ - Jarvis - Harris - Davies - Reckord

Angus - Thomas
