Rob in particular is doing this because it was his dream to buy a football club. He isn't doing it for money. This is a passion. The more success he gets the more his appetite will grow to keep going. He's a young guy, if he sells us, what does he do to replace the "fix" ? I see Rob in particular being here for the long haul and as I said previously I see other investors getting involved. The Virgin Kop Stand anyone ? |

Re: Rory Smith - New York Times/Economic Times article
I don’t think championship football is sustainable for us. We should get into League 1 / 2 and stay there and perhaps appear higher up for a bit. But there is no way that we can sustain it; we are not big enough and we have to remember too the socio economic context - the town of Wrexham is in long term irreversible decline and this will limit the extent to which we can grow as a club. We are lucky, in that we can appeal on the basis of our Welsh status across North Wales (unlike other similar clubs) but there is also a limit to this as ultimately football fans in the region will increasingly gravitate to Liverpool and Manchester.

Wrexham is pretty unique in that it's North Wales catchment area contains 900,000 potential customers with no other club in North Wales to compete with. This club could definitely sustain Championship football and thrive with the right owners. You can't compare this with Fred Tomlinson and Gordon Mytton back in the the late 70's early 80's when mismanagement sent the club to successive relegations This is on a different planet |

Hope you haven’t applied to co-lead the City of Culture push with such an upbeat outlook. Anything is possible under our current owners if we want it enough. The most difficult bit is getting out of the NL.

Re: Rory Smith - New York Times/Economic Times article
I worry more about R&R that not fully appreciating, though i'm sure they've since looked into it, that although fairy tales can and do happen, and the beauty of football is the triumph of the underdog. There does exist a very close correlation between money spent and on field performance, and that there is a sort of ceiling for a club like Wrexham.
