The club seemed to play with some cracking wingers in those days that stretched defences. Thinking Gren Jones, Colbridge, R Barnes, etc etc. Wasn't the current pitch width narrowed when the Mold Rd stands was built? Of that I am not sure.
Clive Colbrige what a winger he was and Brian Whitehouse in the middle.

Clive Colbridge used beat defenders for fun, he would go pass them, then go back and beat them again.

All at a time when his opposite number was allowed to "break his legs" If he tried it again.

Your modern day footballers, Pah!

I would say it has more to do with Jones, Young, Davies and Ponticelli being nowhere near good enough for a side chasing top 3

When over a third of the first team need replacing you will always be struggling.

Strange how all of our opponents are thriving on the big crowd.

Pretty sure dixie had it narrowed when he was manager.

Not strange really, ever since we dropped down to this level we have been one of the "Big Boys" everyone wants to beat.
Step out onto the pitch and look around, as an opposition player, if that doesn't make you raise your game you should take up dominoes.

Whilst our own players stutter with stagefright, shrivel up and fail.

Because we can't trust our midfield with the ball we play 40 yard balls down the line or 60 yard diagonals which work out 1 in 10. The other 9 in 10 the opposition pick up possession and we are on the back foot again. We make average teams look good.

Sort out the midfield, sort out 90% of our issues. We then play through midfield, we play 10 yards higher up the pitch, we can play through mf to our wingers and slip balls through to Mullin to run on to.

It is incredibly frustrating to watch just now. If the lad Trafford is even 70% fit I'd play him for an hour tomorrow or stick Tozer back in there because this mf is killing us.
I agree. Football really is a simple game. Look at City, easy short passes into space. Just as the great (hard to say) liverpool side of 70/80s. United under Sir Alex. Solid grafters and a playmaker in midfield. Pass forward and move on.

So Jones and Davies are nowhere near good enough? The other two yes, but Jones and Davies. Wow.
