Had to return to Wrexham due to personal reasons. Played in a behind closed doors friendly with the you and reserves on Friday (Bickerstaff, Butler, Cushion and Dan Davies also featured).

It was an ingame and a team won 6-5. Couldn’t tell you who

Only watched the first half bit the positives were :

- The back 3 looked solid
- It’s a benefit having a left footer at LCB
- Mendy seemed more confident

And then ..

- Lee is a LCM and will be one of the best in the league. Please do not play him up front. We need to spend on a top striker with Mullin out for a couple of months.

- Cannon is a very good player , but if we play him deeper he does have the habit of losing the ball in dangerous positions.

- TOC’s set piece delivery is great , but i would like is to sign a right footed set piece specialist too for balance.

The important areas to improve next week are CF and RCM.
I did also think that we needed a LWB but tbh i would be tempted to sign another attacking player instead.

Probably as you’ve never played in a pre season friendly that means nothing which has been delayed for 3 hours, a week before a division 4 season starts?

I wonder who he’s signing for? 🤔

I could see him going to someone like Oldham.

*warning completely OTT negative post in coming.*

It was poor. The first half was sloppy. With some questionable finishing. Lee playing upfront is not the answer. Watched the second half this morning and it was more of the same. Just really average with no tempo. Which is too be expected especially with the rain delay.

I think if we're being honest with ourselves. I think its been a really poor pre season. Putting Mullin's injury aside which could have happened in any game.

- Not many minutes for some players. Would be interesting to see the totals.
- Hardly any players getting 90 minutes.
- No settled team.
- No intergrated minutes for our youth players (As they hadnt travelled)
- Playing games against under 21 players won't stand us in goodstead for the experienced pros we'll come up against in league 2. In needed to be a mixture.
- Playing players out of position.
- Is 5 pre season games enough? No idea. But I think its probably the fewest we've played in my memory.
- We've now got to travel home and the season starts a week from today. Not the end of the world but far from ideal. The whole pre season should have been atleast one week earlier.
- No pre season games to attend for UK fans. No issue with the tour. But there should have been atleast one. Not just for our fans. But I also think clubs have a responsability to help out clubs further down the pyramid. Watching Aston Villa play Newcastle in American doesnt sit right with me. But atleast both clubs managed to fit in a game against Walsall and Gateshead.
- Whole staff being away has clearly impacted recruitment.

On the flip side.

I bet we've made a whole stack of money. And atleast our American friends have gotten to see some live games. I hope its been worth it. The idea of team bonding is overstated. They could have gotten exactly the same with a week in skegness. The idea this tour is going to be an annual thing concerns me as well. It needs to be a combination of UK and US with better quality opposition.

I'm sure it will all count for nowt. As we've had pre season on the Isle of Man and lost every game. But far from convinced with the whole thing.

I have a very differing view on this… pre season has been good. Plenty of experimenting with different players - everyone getting minutes. Mullin injury was just as likely if we played over here against Gresford and Lex. Players have had 2 weeks together and I’m confident the club will have been monitoring diet and performance.

And I guess we’ve made a stack load of money! I would have liked to have maybe seen us play one game before the big kick-off next week, but if we want top players, we need to pay for them - we can’t expect R/R to just chucking money at us. They want us to be sustainable and the US market is huge to us.

One reason many do not attend pre season games are because they are friendlies. I have not been to one for years only watch highlights etc. I thought from what I have seen it was a great success based on the things Percy said in his first paragraph. What matters is what happens from Saturday. Settled side in a cooler climate with everyone, hopefully, giving 100%. I am sure PP will have them up for it.
