Re: Mark Griffiths commentary
He's Marmite for sure. But I like Marmite and I think Mark is fine.
Biased as hell but I like that and the commentary itself is OK. The only thing I tell myself now after listening to audio live then watching highlights later is never to take "he's one on one with the keeper" too literally. Pretty much every time, the striker is actually 40 yards from goal with 2 covering defenders running either side. Lol |

Re: Mark Griffiths commentary
Whether it is liked or not by old time fans there is now a global audience and that global audience likes Mark and his commentary. It is mainly them sending food to him from around the world; sort of a North Walian Test Match Special.
As far as I remember, the first online game this season had different commentary and Mark was audio only. The fact he is now on every iFollow is because the club made a conscious decision that it is what the audience wants. The club is global and that is the audience the club is looking at; the views of long term fans are not necessarily at the forefront of the club's mind. Further examples of that, IMO, are the failure of the club to announce the Goal of the Season for last season and award the Scholar of the Season.

Re: Mark Griffiths commentary
I personally don't enjoy the commentary but I can tolerate it. I don't really mind the over enthusiasm or even the mistakes on players names etc. What needs to stop is eating pies when live on air and telling us what he had for his tea last night. He's obviously a nice man but it's just unprofessional. People are paying £10 to listen to someone chewing.

Re: Mark Griffiths commentary
That's a separate point but the matchday announcer is shocking and I'm surprised it isn't mentioned more. Did make me giggle for about 15 minutes last season though when he stuttered and then announced number 8 yuke lung.

Re: Mark Griffiths commentary
If I could criticise one area of the media side its the irritating guy doing the player interviews. 100% of the time makes a statement rather than asks a question. Where did he do his media training ? It's quite incredible how he's getting the gig
If I was a player being interviewed I'd be tempted to answer every question (statement) with "yeah, well said mate" |
