But things were very different back then.
Not one person has said that raping children was OK. How dare you even suggest that.
However, a bobby on the beat could do his job without getting reported to the IPCC, teachers caned pupils, parents smacked children etc. and this is what people mean by saying things were different then.
Some things were worse, some things were better, but accept it or not, things were very different then.
One thing was not though, that is views on rape. Always was and always will be abhorent and not condoned by any of our fellow posters.

Trying to link Ken Barnes to the current scandal in football is stretching the imagination just a bit too much. On the subject of caning children does anyone remember the scandal around the mass open air caning of Grove Park Grammar children by some of the teachers in the early sixties. Things weren't just kept quiet in those days!

Have your ever been on the end of such canings or seen them, leaves an impression, the world has changed, some for the better some for the worse. Respect and discipline, was expected, courtesy is missing today. I remember Ken as a joy to watch on a football field, judgement on him on allegations which he cannot answer are more difficult to judge.

Don’t remember that, but I’m amazed at the number of older posters on here who have got long memories. In fact, I still find consolation in the fact that whenever Wales have lost at rugby over the last 50 years or so, it will have pissed off that sadistic bastard O.M.Jones little bully boy South Walian supposed PE teacher at Grovy in the 60s.
