All we can do is support them, and hope they get it right ASAP.

I might venture to the Racecourse on Saturday to take a look, but looking forward to the first game, even though I’ll just listen to it on the radio.
Sensible post PD as always? We are slowly getting it right.
I'm going to have a look on Saturday against FGR and am hoping to be at Dover.
With regard to JND's comment about not filling the subs bench. It was probably through choice. It's too easy just to name another player as a bench warmer and can just as easily have a negative effect on the player who makes up the numbers.
Looks to me that Sam is close to his preferred line up.

Agree with the above - if Ricketts wanted a full array of subs on the bench he would have had it.

However, at this stage we must be nearing a starting 11 for the start of the league season - more players got 90 minutes under their belts and less disruption than changing most of the team.

Worthy of mention was the pace of the game - it was fast and with a lovely playing surface the ball was moved around by both teams very quickly for the full 90 minutes. For a neutral it would have been a great game of football to drop in - it wasn't bad for us visitors.

Goalkeeper position will be interesting - who will start the league campaign ?
Perhaps our two will be given 45 minutes each on Saturday - neither had a great deal to do last night.

With the starting XI and 4 subs plus Pearson Deverdics and Pyke we are up to 18 players a couple more signings and we have a good squad.

I’m a bit excited at 2 coming in this week, could be game changers

Whatever Ricketts said to them after Telford seems to have done something.

Individual ratings:
Lainton: 4/10 - Made some errors but otherwise wasn't challenged. Feel more confident with Dibble in goal.
Roberts: 6/10 - Standard game, was decent
M.Smith: 8/10 - Usual solid Manny performance. Got a goal too.
Tharme: 6/10 - Showed inexperience sometimes but otherwise played well
Jennings: 5/10 - Got down the left flank well but made mistakes defensively
Young: 7/10 - Distributed well and wasn't afraid to try and create something
Summerfield: 8/10 - Ran the show in the first half, was solid in the 2nd. MOTM
Wright: 6/10 - Broke up play, solid game
Rutherford: 6/10 - Worked hard, got in some good balls. Standard stuff, you either appreciate the effort or hate the lack of end product.
Holroyd: 7/10 - Showed his footballing brain, decent hold-up play when he was needed.
Fondop: 7/10 - Caused problems, but didn't get a goal. 10/10 if we're judging him on his comedy though.

SUBS:
Dibble: 5/10 - Conceded although there wasn't much he could do about it, otherwise decent game.
Carrington: 5/10 - Not really fair to give him something other than bang-on average. Didn't get time to show much but made some tackles.
L. Smith and Sargeant: N/A - Didn't have time to do anything.

All in all, a good response to the Telford loss. Hopefully it's not likem Keates' squad where we'd get a response and then back to the same the next game.
I really don't understand people who say Rutherford has no end product, he's involved in most of our goals, backed up statistically with the most assists, the argument just doesn't make sense. Also comments about his inability to take defenders on, again I don't see it, I cant think of a winger we've had that has taken on more defenders since Ciezy. Add to this his constant running and clever passing I believe he is very underrated by a lot on here.

I see Pyke's role as an impact player off the bench. We are missing at least one other attacking player with pace who can do the same (perhaps two).

If Tharme signs, it still leaves us short of experience at CB.

However, Akil has not been tried at CB playing alongside Pearson who communicates much better than Manny. I still think Akil has the makings of a good CB if needed.

If you don't understand then I guess you just really don't understand
He can put 10 balls into the box and the law of averages means that eventually 1 of them will find somebody.

Basically the point is that he should be looking to find a man with his ball into the box and not just hit and hope. He also needs to be a bit more confident in taking the man on and committing him as he has the pace but for some reason prefers to pass backwards or sideways.

Hope that helps a bit - LOL.

Agreed, he is one of those players who makes the most of his abilities, unlike others who look the part but don't deliver. He isnt the quickest and lacks composure in front of goal, but I like way he links play up on the deck and if we have another player who can keep him out of the starting 11 then things will be ok.
