If we go down that route, we have to make sure there are some watertight clauses to stop that happening.
Kev,

Back then when Mr H wanted ownership and control of the freehold, there was no planning restrictions on the Racecourse ground / land to stop any commercial redevelopment/ with supermarkets and the like, making the land and ground as a prime gateway location potentially very profitable for redevelopment.

That was the whole purpose of the Red Passion campaign (online petition to Protect The Racecourse) to get the Racecourse ground and land notated for sports and recreational use only in the Local Development plan / to be rubber stamped by the Welsh Assembly Government. The original LDP was thrown out by WAG because of the issue with insufficient new Town housing, but it is currently going through planning consultation again for approval. The Racecourse ground and land remains notated in it for Sports & Recreation.

It was also the reason why the owner of the freeholder at that time (Mr M) refused to sign the Protect The Racecourse petition. He saw ownership of WAFC as a personal asset and though in the end he sold the club to the WST, he always wanted to cash in what he perceived as his main business asset (Racecourse ground and land, including for student housing) and to see this materialise into profit. Which he did by selling it onto Glyndwr, who in turn saw it as an asset for their own reasons and hence their subsequent gain from the value of the 99 year lease at £100K. Glyndwr haven't done badly either. If the WST / WAFC had owned the freehold of the racecourse as the landlord, who would they have been able to find who would want a 99 year lease and be willing to pay £100k a year ? Obviously in doing the sale with Glyndwr, Mr M wouldn't have made the multi millions he could have done if he had been able to redevelop the land as a supermarket, but he would have been sensible enough to have realised the great hostility that route would have caused him, having seen the outcome of the previous regime.

On investment I am confident the WST/WAFC will do the right thing with the money from the sell on clause. That's a fantastic piece of strategic thinking. If it was DM who did it, then thats by far the best thing he did for our club. It will be massive boost for us. And he deserves praise for that.

As spending the £1- £2Million could not be classed as a day to day decision in the running of the club, I personally would love to see the WST board put the decision as a vote to its membership, with at least 3 principal options to decide how to spend the money. There are various solid arguments for different types of investment into WAFC (players or ground infrastructure) and it would seem a good thing for the membership/fans of the club to have a voice in that.

The WST board may decide for a number of reasons not to do that (open it up to a democratic vote) but I hope there might be a workable mechanism for them to consider doing it.

Way i read it the Class of 92 put in first more as a vanity project. As for how Lim got involved can't find a great deal of info but imagine the class of 92 would have some pulling power.

But once it's gone it's gone then what? No academy now no youngsters to make a fortune off in the future. It will be back to a hand to mouth existence as the ground will carry on decaying.

In terms of raw assets, I would think very, very little.

But the attraction of Salford was a combination of factors.

Would imagine the Class of 92 saw Salford as a club (local to their own homes and hearts) with potential to fulfil their dream. Create one of the biggest stories in football by going from nothing to a premiership club etc. They had done it all as footballers, but owning a club is a very different proposition.

Think Gary Neville and Ryan knew Lim originally from their trips out to the Far East with Man U. And then some further business relationship with their Football hotels.

And they would have realised despite their own wealth they would need a billionaire on board with even deeper pockets to get them over the line. And they would have known of Lim's involvement/interest in football, by owing CF Valencia. Phil Neville was also coaching over there.

Also Gary then went over to CF Valencia as manager with big expectations because of Lim, but did terribly and the fans were more than glad to see him go.

I suppose the point I am getting at is there are people who are against the Trust purely because of their lack of resources when compared to some mythical rich bloke who’ll seemingly throw money at the club.

However, soon, the club will not lack resources due to Ward money coming in.

Therefore, if you’re anti-fan ownership because of the lack of resources; we're getting resources.

If you’re anti-fan ownership because you don’t want supporters running the club, I can’t help you.

That's why we need extra funding, player sales or new ownership/part ownership.

I think the ward money has made this issue fo away for now
