![]() I was also there throughout the 1970s.
I don't mean to be unkind but he's deluded! Accrington may have had a little bit of a buzz in the town itself then because of their reformation in the late1960s, but they were a lower nonleague side and living off past glories of being a founder member of the FL in the 1890s (they lasted only 5 years) and then joining the FL in 1921 (at the same time as Wrexham). Meanwhile in the 1970s, Wrexham were winning promotions up the (current) championship and giantkilling in all the domestic cups and Europe. Wrexham were indeed a household name, albeit only amongst football fans. His comment was: 'if you talk to any person on the 70s who was most famous, Wrexham or Accrington, they would say Accrington'. That only had any possibility of being true if you asked the question on 1 January 1970 and even then only for the historical footnote of being a founder of the FL!

![]() Remember seeing Accrington Stanley in all out home games with them in the late 50s to them going bust early 60s. (in my early years, then teens). Sad, always looked forward to our games with them, famous old football club. Getting out of the old 3 div north in those days was in many ways even more difficult than getting out of the National League and we all know how hard that was. Never quite the same when a club reforms and comes back. Bigger than us no, but i will not disrespect them.
