I would like to see the plans…..it’s definitely a different mindset on growth. Why not ? Huge global interest….North Wales has one sport people like to watch….this involves getting them in the racecourse and not Liverpool, Utd and others….. anything is possible.

Anything is possible but fanbases take time to grow. Wrexham was very much a sleeping giant. It was very astute business buying Wrexham but getting to 45k+ is not even next level, we're talking 3 or 4 levels above where we are now. That wont take years or even decades but generations. Become a well established prem team and sit it out there for 20 or 30 years, then maybe 45K is achievable.

Posts like this highlight how a fair few people on here really are completely clueless. After a few novelty years combined with success on the pitch when, inevitably, interest dwindles and we find ourselves most likely at our level as a decent league one team finishing mid table our crowds are most likely going to fall back down to around 8-10 thousand (still more than double / triple what they were a few years ago and double what they were for the majority of years in the Football League before that.

55 thousand, even 25 thousand is absurd. A soul less stadium with nobody in it

Google the demise of Darlington FC. Might manage expectations a little.

How many clubs in the UK have a 55k+ stadium?

Probably less than 10.

According to Wiki, 6 (and one of those only scrapes over by 97)

Anyone know which clubs they are?

I'll admit to being concerned about talk of a 50k ground.

It's clear R&R see Wrexham as potentially growing into a global brand aka LFC, MCFC, MUFC etc. Who knows; maybe we'll become regulars in the top tier. (Never say never!) But even with a catchment area encompassing the whole of North Wales, it's doubtful we'd attract more than 20k every Saturday. New-kids-on-the-block fans from overseas are great, of course - it's nice to be supported - but they won't come through the turnstiles for obvious reasons. I don't have Peter Jones' book to hand, but if memory serves, average attendances for the seasons when we were in the old Second Division in the late 1970s were around 15-20k.

Yes, the town's gotten bigger in the meantime, but attending a football match is also a more expensive proposition than it used to be. We all want to avoid a Darlington FC-type scenario:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Darlington_Arena

I for one would much rather see a 20-25k ground full or thereabouts every Saturday than the same number of people (or less) rattling around in a stadium that's too big for them. I can't comment on the condition of the Marston/Borders/Tech End stand - I haven't sat in it since around 2005 - but if the condition is really poor, maybe that's something to look at in the long term. Last I heard, the Yale was fine, and the MRS is grand as far as I can tell.

A new Kop accommodating 5-7k, and the corners filled in like they used to be, should give us a capacity of somewhere in the region of 20,000, and I'll be delighted.

We’re never getting anything above 20k even at a peak.

Which is absolutely fine by me.

Some on here need to give their heads a wobble - we live on the doorstep of 4 huge premier league clubs, the fact we draw 12k a game in is unbelievable and we’ll comfortably do 15k a game once the kop is up.

On a lighter note, if for some mental reason we were to build a 55k stadium, after a quick scan of Google maps, I’m struggling to see anywhere but the fields over the B&Q roundabout or out of town towards Clays?

We are not moving from the Racecourse. Rob was talking about a theoretical maximum capacity on the current site (perhaps requiring nearby acquisitions such as the flats).

They will build/upgrade on a stand-by-stand basis, and as long as we keep selling out, they will be looking to expand further.

Feel confident we would get 20k next year if we were challenging (and ground big enough) ….which I think with a good summer of transfers, we will be up there. R&R aren’t playing games here… I’m thinking they’ve had a marketing study done of wider fan base potential…this number (45k+) hasn’t come from nowhere. I think the big 4 local-ish prem clubs are losing some allure also. Build it and they will come !!
